Two North Wales clubs who have had fantastic seasons both received Tier 2 licences on appeal today.
Cymru North champions Holywell Town were initially refused a licence to continue competing at the level they had just experienced glory in, but today the FAW announced they had won their appeal.
And Llay Welfare. runners-up in Tier 3 Ardal North West, have also secured a T2 licence at the second attempt.
The Wrexham area side will now play Llanuwchllyn of Tier 3 Ardal North East in a play-off final this Saturday at Maes Tegid, Bala, kick-off 12.30 pm, with the prize on offer promotion to the Cymru North.
Llay Welfare said in a statement: “We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the FA Wales for their diligence and consideration in reviewing our application and appeal. It is with great pleasure that we announce our successful application for a Tier 2 license.
“We now eagerly anticipate the Ardal Northern Leagues play-off game against CPD Llanuwchllyn. The winner of this match will gain promotion to the #JDCymruNorth. The game will take place at Bala Town’s Maes Tegid Stadium, with a kick-off time of 12:30 pm.
“We would like to thank the FAW and everyone involved at the club for their support and hard work.”
The FAW announced in a statement this afternoon: “The FAW Men’s & Women’s Tier 2 Appeals Body met on 21 May 2024 to consider the appeals as a result of the First Instance Body decisions for Tier 2 Licensing Applications for the 2024/2025 season.
“The Panel assessed appeals from the following clubs:
Holywell Town (Men’s)
Llay Miners Welfare (Men’s)
Pontarddulais Town (Women’s)
“Holywell Town and Llay Miners Welfare were successful with their appeals and have been granted an FAW Men’s Tier 2 Club Licence for the 2024/2025 season.
“Pontarddulais Town were unsuccessful with their appeal and have not been granted an FAW Women’s Tier 2 Club Licence for the 2024/2025 season.
“As a result, this concludes the FAW Tier 2 Club Licensing cycle for participation in Tier 2 for both men’s and women’s competitions for the 2024/2025 season.”
