You’ll never guess where Pwllheli and Llangefni women have to play their cup final this month!

This is crackers!

Llangefni is the county town of Ynys Môn.

Pwllheli is a market town and community on the Llŷn Peninsula, north-west Wales.

Both towns have very good women’s football teams who are due to meet in an end-of-season cup final.

Where might be a good place to stage this showpiece match?

Bangor? Caernarfon? how about a really nice ground like Nantlle Vale, Penygroes, or maybe Bethesda? Porthmadog?

Ideally, somewhere close enough so the teams don’t have to travel to too far and might be able to bring a few supporters with them.

Guess where the final of the Betty Pickering Cup between Llangefni Town and CPD Merched Pwllheli is being played on Sunday, May 26?

Brymbo.

Yes, Brymbo, a village and community in Wrexham County Borough.

Great place, good football ground, but geographically all wrong for teams from Ynys Môn and the Llŷn.

Okay – almost equi-distant for each, but too far for both to be making what will amount to round trips of about three hours or more apiece on a Sunday Bank Holiday.

The decision to stage the final at Brymbo has been made by the North Wales Women’s Football League, run largely by the North East Wales FA, who have done the coast no favours at all here.

I would imagine the two clubs might have something to say about this, but will it make one jot of difference?

This is bordering on the sort of madness which surrounded this year’s Welsh Cup Final, where The New Saints of Salop and Deeside’s Connah’s Quay Nomads were forced to travel on a Sunday to Newport County’s Rodney Parade down south – well in excess of 100 miles for both – for a 5.25 pm kick-off.

Last month, we had the debacle of Prestatyn-based Bow and Llandudno Amateurs playing the REM Jones Cup Final at…..Llansannan. Less than 20 miles away for both, but surely somewhere closer was more suitable from the spectators aspect?

There really are some baffling things going on in Welsh football this season.

Is there a contest between the FAW and various area associations to choose the most outlandish location for a final which can inconvenice the two clubs concerned the most?

Making Llangefni and Pwllheli travel to Brymbo on May 26 – during a Bank Holiday weekend – is pure fruit and nuts.
