On a highly emotional evening at Cae Seilo, Felinheli produced the result and performance their late and much-missed manager Euron Davies would have been proud of.
The team’s first game since Euron passed away was attended by about 400 spectators all keen to pay their respects to the great man.
Before the match, a minute’s silence was respectfully broken by youngsters in the stands repeatedly chanting Euron’s name – and then everyone broke into applause.
Euron’s daughters Llio, Seren, Nia released love-heart shaped balloons to the sky.
Felin badly needed a victory to keep alive their hopes of escaping relegation from the Tier 3 Ardal North West league.
They produced their fifth home win in six starts.
With three clubs set to go down, depending on the decision of the FAW National Game Board, it is between Felinheli and Bethesda Athletic for that third relegation spot, with Hawarden Rangers and Saltney Town already guaranteed to occupy the bottom two places.
Felinheli are home to St Asaph City on Saturday and still have to face champions Flint Mountain at Cae Seilo.
Bethesda’s final match is at runners-up Llay Welfare this Saturday.
Wednesday’s derby saw Felinheli lead 1-0 at half time, Rhodri Dafydd on target after 25 minutes from a Iwan Edwards assist.
Ten minutes into the second half, Gavin Lloyd Jones doubled the home advantage with a cracker.
Nantlle did not respond until the 94th minute when Sion Williams ensured the game finished 2-1.
Jon Collo struck twice as Llay clinched runners-up spot and potential promotion to Tier 2 after seeing off the Saints at The Ring.
Welfare will only get to contest the Cymru North promotion play-off if they win their appeal against the FAW’s decision to refuse them a Tier 2 licence at the first attempt.
Mike Gadie and Steven Halliwell’s side made it 13 wins in their last 16 league matches at the expense of Asaph on Wednesday night.
A David Wallis own goal on 17 minutes put the Welly in front before Jake Walker levelled soon after.
Collo made it 2-1 on the half-hour, but Danny Clarke equalised in first period stoppage time.
Llay went ahead for a third time midway through the second half when Kian Turton assisted Collo to complete his double.
Five minutes into added time, Scott Swords clinched the points by making it 4-2.
Mike Hayes was a hat-trick hero as Mountain wrapped up the title in style with a six-goal salvo at Llannefydd.
Rowan Brooks, Rob Hughes and Andy Brown added singles for Aden Shannon’s side, Elgan Roberts replying.
A fuller report of this game appeared on Grassroots North Wales on Wednesday.
Bethesda still have work to do to survive the drop after squandering a two-goal lead and losing 3-2 at Parc Gwydir on Wednesday.
Scott Hughes and Joe Todd put Pesda in command after both scoring inside the first 25 minutes, but in first half added time, both Gruffudd Evans and Kyle Kelly netted to level the standings.
Ilan Davies came up with the winner on 71 minutes, clinching the Rwsters a fourth victory in their last six outings.
Scott Swords’ 40th minute goal was enough to secure Llay three points at The Ring.
The hosts blew a chance to double their advantage when Jared Taylor missed a 77th minute penalty.
Despite falling behind to a very early George Davies goal, Saints rallied to record a comfortable victory at the Dragon Steel Stadium.
David Wallis and Josh Brown hit back to edge Asaph in front by half time, then after the break a David Hayes net-finder and Lewis Fearns own goal sealed the result.
Bow Street all but made sure of runners-up spot with a 3-1 triumph at Cae Marian on Wednesday,
Only victory by a cricket score for third-place Llanuwchllyn at Builth Wells on Saturday could deny Bow runners-up on goal difference.
However, as Bow have not applied for promotion they will not enter the Cymru North play-off.
Rhydian Davies (2 pens) and Iolo ap Dafydd secured the points for the visitors on Wednesday, Daniel Thomas responding for Dolgellau.
Trailing 2-1 early in the second half, Albion went goal crazy to claim a thumping victory at The Riverside.
Josh Astley (4), Conner Kendrick, Josh Valentine and Tom Smith shared the away goals, Tom Edwards (2) and Harry Bowen replying.
Three goals in 11 minutes inside the final 20 banked the points for Bow.
Sion Ewart (2) and Rhys Hughes were the home hitmen.
Tommy Rowlands and Aeron Powell delivered the goals for the home side, who had Alex Hicks red-carded on 90+3.
Hat-trick star Meilir Williams boosted his league goals total to 27 and his overall tally for 2023-24 to 44 in Saturday’s romp at Clywedog Park.
Jack Evans and Will Owen (2) completed the half-dozen for Llan to keep their outside hopes of second place alive.
Conner Kendrick was the sole marksman for a disappointing Albion.
