CPD Y Glannau are the 2023-24 NWCFA Development Championship champions!
The progressive St Asaph club proved they are getting it right at more than one level as their ‘second team’ clinched the title with a 2-1 win over Prestatyn Wanderers.
Last Sunday’s game at Betws-yn-Rhos saw Glannau get off to a flyer, Ged O’Malley scoring in the first minute from a Louis Gizzi assist.
And 16-year-old Andrew George made it 2-0 on 27 minutes from the penalty spot.
The hosts had several chances to add a third but failed to take one, and this led to the match becoming a bit of a struggle in the end.
Credit to Wanderers, they kept battling and pulled one back on 64 minutes, Corey Alvarado’s long range effort sneaking it.
Home keeper Hayden Nicholls was then forced into a few fine stops to ensure the game was won.
At the final whistle Y Glannau Development were crowned Championship champions with an unbeaten record of four wins and a draw.
Padrig Hickey and Kevin Lloyd supplied the goals which ensured Llanrug won Friday night’s reserves Arfon derby.
Hickey struck on 17 and Lloyd on 45 minutes.
Cian Pleming hit back for the Darans eight minutes into the second half, but it was not enough.
Leaders Nefyn dished out six of the best at Bastion Gardens.
Tristan Harrison and Llyr Evans netted two apiece for the Penwaig, Elgan Jones and Owain Bryn Jones also on the mark.
Cameron Buckley hit a hat-trick as third-place Trearddur Bay went nap at home to Llanrug on Sunday.
Jacob Davies and Dave Webb also produced late goals for the dominant islanders.
Sam Meredith came up with the all-important goal on 22 minutes which ensured Kinmel Bay edged the win over Llanfairfechan.
Deio Roberts’ 95th minute goal clinched the points in a hard-fought victory for the Darans.
Caio Thomas delivered a first half lead for the hosts before Corey Lundstram levelled from the penalty spot.
All-square on Anglesey with Harry Sutton, Charlie Dales and Tom Zalot on target for the hosts and captain Liam Bowers with a pair for the visitors, whose manager Steve Robinson was shown an 85th minute red card.
