Celebration time for a football club looking forward to promotion

Celebration time is in the air at a North Wales football club in more ways than one.

CPD Y Glannau, who play home matches at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St Asaph, are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

The club, whose name in English means ‘the banks’, have also just been promoted to the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division after finishing runners-up in Division One this term.

Y Glannau were first established as an all-Welsh speaking football club in 1994 by Alun Coetmor Jones and Moi Parry.

They first joined the former Clwyd League in 1994-95 and finished third in Division Two.

This secured them promotion to Division One where they again ended up in third place at the end of the campaign.

Y Glannau went up once more, this time to the Premier Division, where they came third-from-bottom in 1996-97.

They were relegated in 1999-2000, then in 2004-05 completed the season at the Division One basement and dropped into Division Two.

A league reshuffle meant a return to Division One in 2007-08 and Y Glannau have been members of the newly-named Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League since it was established in 2011.

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, the club organised a game between the current team and previous players.

In the awards evening which followed, manager Daniel Parsons was presented with a framed CPD Y Glannau shirt by former captain Chris Evans for 25 years of service to the club.

CPD Y Glannau are now preparing for the new season and looking forward to competing in the Premier Division.
