Long-awaited future plans for JD Cymru Premier League to be revealed within days
Plans for the future of the Cymru Premier League will be unveiled to a selected audience in just a few days’ time.
The FAW will be in North and South Wales hosting two special events revealing how the national league will develop in the years to come.
In February, football’s governing body in Wales announced it would invest over £6million into the JD Cymru Premier, the largest ever single investment into Wales’ top-flight league.
The investment for development of the league is available now until the end of the 2026/27 season.
In December 2023, the FAW appointed Jack Sharp as Head of Domestic Leagues which was the first step in the implementation of the JD Cymru Premier strategy that is based on consultations with key stakeholders including clubs, supporters and media.
The FAW said the £6m funding provides the foundations of delivering this strategy and is a key element prior to the timelines being publicly launched in the coming months.
Clubs and supporters have been waiting for further news on how this money will be spent.
Later this month, the picture should become clearer.
The Football Association of Wales will be holding two identical events – at The New Plaza in Port Talbot on Monday 22 April and at The Stiwt in Rhosllannerchrugog on Tuesday 23 April. Doors open for both events at 6pm before starting at 7pm.
The events will begin with the premiere of the RedWall+ documentary, The League of Wales, which explores the 32 year history of league up until the present day.
Those present will then become amongst the first to hear about the plans for the future of the league.
After a break for buffet style food, there will be a a panel Q&A with representatives from the FAW.
