NORTH WALES COAST WEST REPORTS – APRIL 6

Premier Division

Trearddur Bay 3-2 Glantraeth

Six development squad players featured for Trearddur Bay in a victory which kept them top of the Premier and made it 19 league games undefeated.

Yet it was a hard fought game against Glantraeth, who can test the very best on their day.

With the wind bound to play a big part, it was Glan that started the better although the Beach Boys had the breeze behind them.

Glantraeth won a penalty in the 17th minute and Dylan Williams put the ball past stand-in keeper Dan McGinness.

The visitors pushed for another goal but neither team were creating many clear chances.

Bay hit back in the 32nd minute when 17-year-old Jake Davies hit a clearance on the volley which sailed over keeper Gwyndaf Owen and into the net.

Six minutes later Asa Thomas added a second – and his 47th club goal of the season – to put the hosts ahead.

Bay were now having the majority of the ball and pressing for a third. That came in the 41st minute through Callum Mcminimee. Half time: Trearddur Bay 3 Glantraeth 1.

In the second half, Glantraeth now had the strong wind behind them.

Steven Jones pulled one back with 57 on the clock.

The game now became very stop-start with both teams guilty of sloppy play. It was now a battle of who wanted it most and the Trearddur lads showed great resilience to hold onto the three points.

Special mention to McGinness, who was brilliant in goal, especially in the second half, and picked up a well deserved man of the match award.

It was especially pleasing for Trearddur to field six development squad members, none of whom ever looked out of place and reflected the quality coming through the club.

Trearddur Bay: Dan McGinness, Casey Gregg, Morgan Rowlands (Dan Mowbray 75), Jacob Davies, Thomas Lennon, Myles Jones, Dylan Williams (Cameron Buckley 84), Asa Thomas (c), Callum McMinimee (Noel Owen 85), Matt Reynolds, Les Davies.

Jamie McDaid’s 40th goal in all competitions this season gave United a seventh-minute lead. but Pentraeth hit back to lead 2-1 through Gethin Randall and Matthew Parry.

And it looked like that would be enough to win it for the hosts until Jones struck.
