Colwyn Bay are the best supported club in the Welsh football system, latest figures show.
Cymru Premier outfit Bay are sixth in Wales’ overall average attendances, behind five clubs operating in the English pyramid – Cardiff City, Swansea City, Wrexham, Newport County of the EFL and Southern League Premier South exiles Merthyr Town.
Colwyn Bay have an average turnout of 718 this term, making them No 1 on the Welsh domestic gates ladder.
Caernarfon Town are next, 7th overall and 2nd in the Welsh system, while a club formed just five years ago are really pulling up trees.
Bangor 1876, who have risen from Tier 5 to Tier 2 in four seasons, are averaging 410 per game in the Cymru North.
Formed as an alternative football platform in Bangor to the ailing and now defunct Bangor City in 2019, 1876 have the 10th highest crowd average in Wales and fifth best in the Welsh system.
Only four of the 12 Cymru Premier members are ahead of the Nantporth-based club, which won the Gwynedd League in 2019-20, have landed three straight promotions, and in their debut campaign in Cymru North look a good bet for a top six finish.
Also faring well in the attendance chart are Cymru North clubs Denbigh Town and Flint Town United (joint 13th) plus Llandudno (16th) who are ahead of the current top three in the Cymru Premier table – Bala Town (18th), champions The New Saints (19th) and Connah’s Quay Nomads (25th).
Despite being third bottom of the Cymru North, the always well-backed CPD Porthmadog are in front of Cymru Premier second-place side and Welsh Cup finalists Nomads.
The figures, compiled by South Wales football follower Michael W Coakley-Gulland, only cover the top two tiers.
It is thought the likes of CPD Y Rhyl 1879 would feature prominently in the list if Tier 3 clubs were included.
