ARDAL NORTH WEST – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3

Flint Mountain 2 (Hayes 12, Hughes 35)
Conwy Borough 3 (Hold 27, Evans 77 & 81)

Big shock at the Essity Stadium tonight as Conwy Borough fought back from 2-1 down to inflict just a fourth league loss of the season on title favourites Flint Mountain.

A win would have put Aden Shannon’s side three points behind leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 with four games in hand, but things did not go according to the script.

Dan Evans was the Boro hero with two goals in a four-minute spell late in the match.

The hosts took a 12th minute lead when Mike Hayes’ clever run beat the offside trap as he met a Tom Ruffer forward ball. Hayes beat a defender and cut back to hit low past keeper Calum McKerlie for his 24th goal of the season.

Conwy hit back on 25 minutes, Evans involved before Adam Hold applied the finish.

Mountain regained the advantage on 39, Jack Sconce feeding a cracking ball to Rob Hughes, who controlled, cut into the box and lashed past the keeper.

Borough had a great chance to equalise four minutes into the second half when Aaron Hassall was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box, but Toby Jones’ penalty was saved by John Danby.

Another penalty was awarded on 62 minutes – this time to Flint – when Sconce was felled in the area, but Tom Ruffer’s kick was kept out by McKerlie.

The game was on a knife-edge and Conwy delivered a sharp double blow when Evans netted on 77 and 81 minutes, Sean McCaffery and Tomas Cardias-Williams with the assists.

Holyhead Hotspur 4 (T Owen 3, Pick 55, Roberts 89, Summers-Jones 90+6)
Nantlle Vale 0

What team could live with Holyhead Hotspur at the moment!

Unbeaten in the league since the start of January, Darren Garmey’s side moved up to third in the table tonight with a 4-0 caning of fellow top-five side Nantlle Vale.

Holyhead made it 11 unbeaten in Ardal North West – seven wins and four draws making it 25 points from a possible last 33.

The hosts made the perfect start at the New Stadium, Tomos Owen heading home a James Phillips cross after just three minutes.

It remained 1-0 up to half time, but 10 minutes into the second period Hotspur added a crucial second goal.

Kane Roberts’ delivery from the right was spilled by keeper Oliver Jones, Dylan Summers-Jones rolled the ball into the danger area and Jamie Pick applied the finish.

It was not until the late stages that the game was well and truly wrapped up.

An 89th minute counter-attack saw Jack Walsh drive through the heart of midfield and play through Summers-Jones, who squared for Kane Roberts to chip over the advancing keeper.

Six minutes into added time came a well-deserved goal for Summers-Jones.

The 21-year-old striker picked the ball up from 20 yards out and smashed it past the keeper for his 19th goal of the campaign – what a hit!
