CYMRU NORTH REPORTS – MARCH 8-9

Two Jamie Breese penalties helped Holywell make it 11 straight league wins which puts them two points behind leaders Airbus with three games in hand.

Saturday’s victory at Alyn Park against a Mold side having a tremendous season must rank as one of the Wellmen’s finest results this term.

Breese broke the deadlock on nine minutes from the spot after he was fouled aiming to meet a Danny Andrews cross.

Alex had a few close calls before the interval and there was still much to play for in the second period, but a crucial second for Town on 56 minutes put them in the driving seat.

Andrews fed a great through ball to Jake Cooke, who slotted clinically past the advancing keeper.

Just a minute later it was game on again when Jake Roberts shot into the bottom corner for the hosts.

However, a foul on Morgan Murray in the box after 66 led to a second away penalty which Breese put away.

Porthmadog 1 Buckley Town 3

Danny Brookwell’s third-minute goal on his 31st birthday was enough to give Porthmadog a half time lead, but the pictured changed after the break.

The visitors equalised in the 54th minute when Josh Jones’ header was saved and Josh Allen put away the rebound.

Moments later, Liam Driscoll headed against the post for the visitors, and it remained 1-1 until the 79th minute when substitute and player-manager Asa Hamilton calmly finished to put the Stags ahead.

Driscoll added a third five minutes into stoppage time when he capitalised on a defensive mistake.

Ruthin Town 1 Caersws 2

Osian Davies‘ 90th minute goal was not enough to get anything from this game for a Ruthin side which put in a poor performance.

First half strikes from Craig Williams and Harry Cottam were sufficient to secure the spoils for Caersws.

Josh Lock hit a 15-minute hat-trick as Denbigh delivered six of the best against relegated Chirk.

Five second-half goals gave Town the victory their dominance deserved after the visitors were holding Dewi Llion’s side at the break.

Town’s first real chance fell on 21 minutes and it found the back of the net. Billy Holmes fed the ball to Owen Davies who crossed for Paul Fleming, his deft touch taking it beyond the keeper and finding the bottom corner.

On 28 minutes, against the run of play, the Colliers levelled when Max McLaughlin smashed the ball home after an initial save via Aaron Jones from a Jack Edwards effort.

Half-Time: 1-1

Seven minutes into the second half, the hosts regained the lead. Lock picked the ball up from Davies before running through and thumping it home.

Lock was denied twice by the keeper before with 65 minutes gone a poor clearance found Matthew Worrall who, from the halfway line, launched the ball over the keeper for 3-1.

A minute later Lock had his second, before he grabbed his third for three goals in as many minutes for Denbigh.

Town pressed for a sixth and finally got it in stoppage time. Worrall took the ball on the bounce and volleyed home for a second remarkable goal on his 50th appearance.

Gresford Athletic 2 Flint Town United 4
Report: Nigel Sheen

Two very late goals clinched the victory which keeps the Silkmen’s title bid bubbling.

Heading into the final minute of a pulsating game against Gresford at The Rock, Flint were tied 2-2, having twice come from behind to draw level.

But by the time the final whistle had blown, they had managed to score twice more. The late goals were scored by their substitutes, Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro and Harley Peagram, who finished off proceedings with a 35 yard wonder strike.

Earlier, Elliott Reeves had contributed with a couple of goals, to bring his side back in contention.

After the visitors had some early close calls, it was something of a shock when Gresford took the lead on seven minutes.

Haci Ozlu received the ball down the right and got the better of Anthony Stephens, before turning in towards goal. He shot across Rhys Williams, and the ball struck the base of the post, before bouncing back across the line and into the net on the opposite side.

Flint responded well, Ben Hughes and Reeves both hitting the goal frame before the visitors’ persistance was rewarded after 33 minutes. Phillips whipped in a cross onto the head of Reeves, who found the back of the net.

It was 1-1 at half time, and the game became more attritional after the interval.

A rare foray into the Flint half brought a reward for the hosts after 73 minutes when they retook the lead, Dominic Deacon blasting a rising shot past the keeper to make it 2-1.

Flint equalised five minutes later. Hughes crossing and Reeves nodding home.

The visitors won a corner in the 90th minute. Phillips sent over an inviting ball to the far post area, and Akpa-Akpro rose majestically to meet it and bury it into the net to make it 3-2 to the visitors. Cue rapturous scenes from the Flint supporters.

Things got even better in the fourth minute of added on time. Peagram making it 4-2 with the most audacious of chips.

Llandudno 1 Airbus UK 5

Despite taking a 32nd minute lead through Alex Boss and remaining 1-0 ahead at half time, Llandudno conceded five goals to the leaders in the second period.

By the hour mark Airbus were in front courtesy of two cracking headers from Joe Palmer.

Tyler McManus added the next double to make it 4-1 before Jaiden Cooke rounded off the scoring for the table-toppers.

Llanidloes Town 1 Guilsfield 4

This game was all but over as a contest by half time, goals from Izaac Lambert, Reece Warder and top marksman Iwan Matthews putting Guils three-up.

Luke Boundford pulled one back for Llanidloes on 66 minutes, but an Adam Worton own goal after 83 completed the Daffs’ misery.

Prestatyn Town 3 Bangor 1876 4

This match was covered in depth by Grassroots North Wales earlier this weekend.

Bangor led 2-0 through Corey Jones and Corrig McGonigle (penalty) after just seven minutes, but Alec Williams and Luke Wiltshire pulled Town level by the break and Tyler Joyce made it 3-2 to the Seasiders early in the second period.

Dale Davies equalised on 54 and Mason Blackwell-Jones notched the winner for 1879 after 73.

Prestatyn had captain Tom Kemp dismissed for a second yellow after 83.
