A fourth straight away victory for Felinheli lifted them to joint-second in the table, but they were given a tremendous battle by their hosts at Nantporth Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The result sees Aaron Jones-Evans’ side join Connah’s Quay Nomads on 18 points from eight games, with Felin only trailing the Deesiders on goal difference.
Felinheli made a dream start after dashing quickly out the blocks, some lovely football on display with Jenna Tugwell-Allsup threading a pinpoint pass to Fflur Williams who cut in off the right and easily put away the chance to make it 1-0.
Both teams went back and forth with great play on view, out on the flanks from Felinheli and through the middle from Bangor.
Chances fell for both, but it seemed Felin just had that cutting edge that Bangor lacked and on 38 minutes Katie Midwinter made it 2-0 with a very special goal.
Again following fine build up from Felinheli, with Shannon Jones at the heart of it, the ball found its way to Nel Huws whose perfectly-weighted pass picked out Midwinter, and she took one touch and rifled home a missile for 2-0.
The half finished with Felinheli two ahead but Bangor still in the contest.
The second half began with Bangor creating a lot of space in midfield, but again lacking the firepower up front to finish the chances. Pace and power at the back from Felin kept the blues at bay.
Midwinter went close twice, putting the ball inches over the bar and drawing a good save from stand-in goalkeeper Elin Jones.
Bangor got what they deserved on the hour mark, a defensive error from the visitors enabling Menna Evans to make no mistake.
This seemed to wake Felinheli up and they started creating chance after chance with Alaw Prys, Catrin Evans and Fflur Williams all missing one on one opportunities.
The Cae Seilo team kept the pressure on and In the 82nd minute Midwinter delivered a sublime ball to Alaw Prys who was clean through on goal and calmly finished in the bottom corner.
Felin manager Aaron Jones-Evans: “Some quality football on display from both sides, some tired legs from our women towards the end after a battle on Sunday vs Airbus but we kept going and got our rewards.
“Nine points from our last 3 away games but we have no time to think and dwell on this as we have another game this Sunday vs NFA.
“The women have been doing great recently and I’m happy with our progress but we need to keep our heads switched on and just get on with these games as they come thick and fast.”
CPD Merched Y Felinheli visited Bangor Nantporth Stadium on Wednesday night in an intense game and took all the points, but the home team girls gave a performance of a lifetime.
Their goal scorer was Menna Evans via a very technical assist from Cerys Parry on the wing.
Manager Aron Griffith said: “Most managers/coaches would have been mad or upset after losing 3-1 but not me. Felin has always been a top-three team of the tier 2 division and we pushed them all the way.
“With the absence of our regular goalkeeper Becca Elliott, in stepped Elin Jones our centre half to do the job. We couldn’t be more proud or thankful to Elin for stepping up and making some decent saves to keep us in the game.
“I thought Felin had the best of us in the first half, but we still played some brilliant football from the back all the way forward. In the second half we scored to make it 1-2 and we were knocking on the door for our second, but the experience of Felin made it 3-1 yet we still gave it our all until the final whistle.
“I think that was or certainly is up there for our best performance this season; it certainly was a team performance all round from the girls, couldn’t be more proud of them, and always nice to hear both opposing managers in our last 2 matches commenting on us being a top team at keeping and moving the ball. Shows we can compete well in this league.
“Well deserved break now until we face league leaders Llandudno (on February 11).”
