This was a third away league win on the bounce for Felinheli with four of their five victories this season producing a 4-0 scoreline.
Aaron Jones-Evans’ side are third in Genero Adran North, just three points behind second-place Connah’s Quay Nomads with a game in hand.
Felin were aiming today to carry on the momentum of their 4-0 success at Nomads two weeks ago, but weather restrictions forced them to cancel last Sunday’s fixture, so they were hoping this didn’t take the wind out of their sails when making the trip up to Broughton to face an Airbus side coming off a morale boosting semi-final win last time out.
Full of confidence, Felinheli started the game really well, creating a lot of chances, but couldn’t find the finish at the end of some great football.
The visitors kept probing, switching play and creating spaces in behind. In the 28th minute Felinheli got some luck with a poor kick out from Airbus goalkeeper Ruby Stevens only finding Jenna Tugwell-Allsup 25 yards out, who took no time to think and struck a first-time shot into the net to make it 1-0.
Felinheli kept the pressure on with Airbus not able to offer much attacking-wise due to the impressive back-four of Shannon Jade Jones, Llio Henshaw, Jordanne Greenough and Jody Cain.
Some great work down the right from Cain and Williams released Tugwell-Allsup at the edge of the box.
Calm and collected, she cut in on her left foot and rifled a shot straight into the top corner to make it 2-0 after 30 minutes with her seventh goal of the season.
It was soon to be 3-0 with Katie Midwinter playing a weighted pass through to Fflur Williams, who was having a field day on the right wing, Williams latched onto the pass and finished composedly to make it three after 36 minutes.
Felinheli were pushing for more but a visibly tired Airbus, whose under-19 team played Friday night, valiantly held on until the break.
The second half started as the first ended with Felinheli on top and creating chance after chance.
Their fourth goal arrived as early as 47 minutes, Midwinter again playing a great through ball that split the Airbus defence and finding Catrin Evans, who slotted home her ninth goal of 2023-24.
Airbus sat back and soaked the pressure but the half was marred by injuries with four Felinheli players having to leave the field due to knocks and niggles, all being replaced by Lois Williams, Chiara Nocovelli, Llio Emyr and Erin Gwilym. Alaw Prys also came on for Midwinter.
This seemed to disrupt the flow of the game. Felinheli were still creating plenty. but Airbus hung on to keep the score respectable. Airbus played their part in this game and a lot of their players put a monumental effort in regardless of fatigue being a factor.
Winning manager Aaron Jones-Evans said: “A great effort from both teams today, it’s always tough coming into a game after a week off but we kept our momentum going with an important 3 points and another clean sheet.
