Llanfairpwll qualify for Junior Cup semis after opponents broke rule

CPD Llanfairpwll have advanced to the semi-finals of the NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup after the team which beat them in the previous round was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.

As a result, CPD Llanystumdwy, who defeated Llanfairpwll 3-2 in the quarter-final on November 18, are expelled from the 2023-24 competition.

Llanfairpwll progress to the last four, where they will visit Llandudno Amateurs. In the other semi, Bow will host CPD Y Glannau.

The North Wales Coast FA, who considered Llanfairpwll’s protest, released the following statement:

“The Competitions & Inter-Association Committee of the North Wales Coast Football Association (NWCFA) met on Monday 15th January to consider a protest submitted by Llanfairpwll FC, regarding the eligibility of a Llanystumdwy FC player in their NWCFA Mabon Scaffolding Junior Challenge Cup Quarter-Final.

“After consideration of the protest, the Committee decided that the protest would be successful and that Llanystumdwy FC would be adjudged to have lost the match.

“Llanystumdwy FC have not appealed this decision and Llanfairpwll FC will now be competing in the Semi-Final stage of the competition.”
