13 new signings made by Prestatyn Town so far this month – here’s a rundown…
It has been a very busy month so far in the transfer market at Prestatyn Town.
Since Matty Roberts took over as manager on January 12, numerous new players have been brought in.
It’s been hard to keep up, but here’s a rundown of the new faces at the Cymru North club.
Tom Weir (from Denbigh Town)
Back to where it all began for this highly-talented 22-year-old.
Tom Weir first played for Prestatyn Town as a schoolboy in 2013 before joining Rhyl and then Denbigh Town. He also had a short spell at Colwyn Bay.
The forward moved to Connah’s Quay Nomads for four seasons, playing for their academy, and was then promoted to the first team squad before landing back at Rhyl in 2020.
Weir signed for Flint Town United in 2021 before joining Conwy Borough in the 2021/22 January transfer window.
Later had stints with Gresford Athletic and Tier 5 club Bow before joining Denbigh Town this season, netting seven times in 20 games.
Made the perfect return to Prestatyn, scoring the winner on his debut in a 3-2 win over Porthmadog on January 13.
Tom Kemp (from NFA)
Highly popular figure at Bastion Gardens returns to the club where he made his name.
Tom was with Everton as a youngster before signing for Prestatyn Town in 2012.
He went on to make the bench for all four of Town’s 2013-14 Europa League matches, twice coming on as a substitute against HNK Rijeka of Croatia.
In 2016-17, Tom was part of the Prestatyn squad which lifted the Cymru Alliance championship.
He represented the Seasiders in the Welsh Premier before switching to Flint Town United in 2018-19.
Tom celebrated promotion to the top-flight with the Essity Stadium club the following campaign.
He made 74 first team appearances in all for Flint before deciding to drop three levels to join Prestatyn Sports in 2021-22.
The following season he made the switch to ambitious Tier 5 newcomers NFA, staying with the club until January 2023, when he signed for CPD Y Rhyl 1879.
Tom returned to NFA this season and was captain of the side, but the lure of rejoining a club made up of local players again, secured his return to Bastion Gardens.
Alfie Vaughan (from Connah’s Quay Nomads)
Could not have made a better start to life at Prestatyn, scoring twice on debut in last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Porthmadog.
This 18-year-old dazzler has previous experience with St Asaph City and Connah’s Quay Nomads.
He said: “I’m very pleased to be joining Prestatyn Town, as it’s a club with so much history and a great fan base. All I can promise is that I’ll work hard and perform to the highest level I can every week for the club.”
Conor Davies (from Llanrwst United)
A consistent, hard-working goalscorer with a good record for finding the net wherever he has played.
Signs for Prestatyn Town from Llanrwst United, having also starred for Conwy Borough, Glan Conwy and Llandudno Albion in the past.
A highly-capable marksman around Tier 2 and 3 levels.
He said: “I’m looking forward to the new project that is starting here and hoping I can play a part in that on the pitch.”
Isaac Hall (from Rhuddlan Town)
Former Prestatyn Town Under-16’s player who has spent the last two seasons developing his talents with Rhuddlan Town.
Scored nine goals for the North Wales Coast East Premier Division club this term before joining Prestatyn.
Nineteen-year-old midfielder who has great potential.
Chris Morris (from Llandudno Junction)
Versatile performer who joins Town from Llandudno Junction.
He said: “It’s a pleasure to sign for Prestatyn with the club’s rich history.
“Speaking with the club about the ambitions and aims I know I can offer a lot to the team and I’m sure we will achieve many successes going forward.”
James Stead (from NFA)
Midfield general and dead-ball specialist.
Having began his career at Rhyl, Stead moved to Prestatyn in 2014 and spent four years at Bastion Gardens, representing the club at Cymru Alliance and Welsh Premier League level.
He rejoined the Lilywhites in June 2018, but was back at Prestatyn at the start of 2019-20, scoring six goals as Town romped to the Cymru North league title.
Stead moved to Cymru Premier club Caernarfon Town in 2020, but last season joined CPD Y Rhyl 1879, for whom he made eight appearances.
Joined NFA this season and started really well, scoring six goals in six games, but had not played since August 2023.
Tyler Joyce (from St Asaph City)
The 23 year old midfielder rejoins old St Asaph City boss Matty Roberts at Bastion Gardens.
Scored six first-team goals and three for the reserves at Saints this season.
Also had a spell at CPD Y Rhyl 1879.
Anthony Jones (from Kinmel Bay)
His departure from Kinmel Bay is seen as a huge loss to a club where he has been a central figure for many seasons.
The 28-year-old now tries his hand at Tier 2, where no doubt his experience will be a major asst to a Prestatyn side he made his debut for in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Porthmadog.
Harvey Gordon (from Rhuddlan Town)
Back at Prestatyn Town, the club where he first emerged as a top prospect for the under-16s.
Also made a couple of first team appearances in Cymru North in 2021-22.
Has been outstanding for Rhuddlan Town for the past two seasons and at the age of just 18 surely has an exciting career ahead of him.
Connor Whelan (from Conwy Borough)
Defender who made 23 league appearances for Town last season rejoins the Seasiders from Conwy Borough.
Aged 28, Whelan also spent several seasons at Rhydymwyn.
Carl Lamb (as free agent)
Merseyside-based, but a Welsh football stalwart having represented 11 of our clubs in a long career.
Now 39, Carl was with Liverpool and Chester as a youngster and his long list of other clubs include Cammell Laird, Bangor City, NEWI Cefn Druids, The New Saints, Droylsden, Welshpool Town, Buckley Town, Witton Albion, Aberystwyth Town, Chesterfield, Alfreton, Rhyl FC, Colwyn Bay, Denbigh Town, Vauxhall Motors, Brymbo and CPD Y Rhyl 1879.
He also played in Australia for two years.
Highlights of Carl’s career include playing for The New Saints against FK Ventspils of Latvia in the 2007-08 Uefa Champions League.
The 2008-09 season was another memorable one for Carl as part of a Droylsden side which made waves in the FA Cup in an epic series of clashes with Football League outfit Chesterfield.
In 2015-16, Carl joined Welsh Premier League side Rhyl, where his notable feats included netting after 8.72 seconds of a game against his former club TNS.
The 2021-22 season saw Carl amass 27 league goals in just 19 appearances as newly-formed CPD Y Rhyl 1879 won the 2021-22 North Wales Coast East Premier Division title as undefeated invincibles.
In all competitions, he scored 38 times in 29 matches, also winning the Cookson Cup with Gareth Thomas’ team.
Joe Lawlor (from Connah’s Quay Nomads – LOAN)
Exciting prospect, 18-year-old goalkeeper Joe Lawlor, joins Prestatyn on loan from Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Has also represented Brickfield Rangers and Nomads Under-19’s.
Former Prestatyn Town manager Neil Gibson, now boss of Connah’s Quay, set up the loan deal.
Joe said: “I am buzzing to join this club on loan, really excited to get playing. Would like to thank Gibbo for making this all possible. Can’t wait to put the shirt on and get out there.”
