Corwen 3-1 Ruabon Rovers
Pictures/Report: Gavin Billington
Corwen are now the only remaining team in North Wales senior men’s football with a 100 per cent league record after Saturday’s win over Ruabon Rovers made it nine on the bounce for Jamie Hulse’s men.
Gronant, NFA and Bow all lost their perfect slates at the weekend, leaving the North East Wales Premier Division leaders alone in their statistical perfection.
If you count veterans leagues among the mainstream, then Ruthin Town have a played 4, won 4 record in the North East Wales Veterans Premier Division.
For the second week in a row Corwen faced newly-promoted Ruabon, and seven days after the Horace Wynne Cup tie, switched to the 3G pitch at Maes Tegid due to wet weather, it was back to the War Memorial Park for this league encounter.
The crowd were hoping for as much excitement as last week’s cup thriller, when Corwen ran out 5-4 winners.
It was Ruabon who struck first on 42 minutes, Joshua Hughes receiving a cross and taking a touch before placing the ball across the goal and into the far corner of the net to break the deadlock with a fine finish.
Half-time: 0-1

Early in the second half, Corwen’s Tom Weyman hit a low first time shot at goal, forcing Gareth Partridge to dive at the near post and just about stop it going under him and into the back of the net.
There were a couple of alarms at both ends before the hosts finally concocted an equaliser on 71 minutes.
Alex Webster whipped a corner into the Ruabon box, where Dylan Davies, on debut after his transfer from The New Saints, was waiting to head the ball home at the far post.
With 10 minutes left Webster played the ball on to Tom Mann, who saw his shot saved by Partridge, but from the rebound Robbie Williams scored from close range to give Corwen the lead.

Five minutes remained when the home side looked to seal the victory as a shot had Partridge beaten, but hit the inside of the far post and went away from goal.
In stoppage time Ruabon committed men forward as they searched for an equaliser, allowing Webster to run into space in the Rovers half, enabling him to get clean through on goal and make it 3-1.
Connah’s Quay Town 0-0 FC Queen’s Park
Nothing separated the Premier’s top two teams from last season in their latest encounter.
Greenfield 3-1 Caerwys
Although Nathan Large gave Caerwys a 14th minute lead, Greenfield rallied to win via a Nathan Swann-Jones own goal, plus strikes from Ryan Jones and Lewis Williams.
Mynydd Isa 3-2 Coedpoeth United
Kady Seabrook’s double for Coedpoeth was not enough to save his side from defeat as goals from Jack Aitken, Kieran Jones and Sam Wainwright ensured Isa took the spoils.
Penyffordd Lions 2-1 Rhostyllen
Another blow to Rhostyllen’s title hopes, Marcus Davies and Harry Brown putting Penyffordd two-up in the first half before the visitors produced a solitary reply through William Roberts following the break.
Championship Division

Brymbo 2-6 Plas Madoc

Nicky Williams and Joshua Rush also struck for the visitors, Jordan Reid (pen) and Josh Bachner responding for the Steelmen.
Gronant 2-3 Rhydymwyn
Something of a shock here as Gronant’s perfect 12 wins from 12 games record was ended by ever-improving Rhydymwyn.

Overton Recreational 10-0 Skippy
Seven goals from Harry Massey – now 27 for the season – was the highlight of a double-figure barrage from Overton.

Reserve Division

Caerwys 3-2 Mynydd Isa
Jack Smallman (2) and Joseph France provided the goals which earned the points for Caerwys Reserves in a game which featured plenty of late drama.
Kobie Betts and Joseph Liptrot (pen) kept Mynydd Isa in the hunt right till the end.
Castell Alun Colts 4-3 Corwen
Daniel Woosey’s treble and a Nicholas McHarron goal proved just enough to edge Castell Alun Colts Reserves the victory over a battling Corwen.
