Report: Gemma Thomas
New signing Megan Wood helped lead the line for a Trearddur side which picked up their first point in this season’s Betty Pickering Cup.
While the sun was shining at Lon Isallt, there was a strong wind which naturally affected the game.
Bay set up slightly differently to usual with just 11 players available, changing to a back three of Stacey Evans, Catrin Jones and Shelley McMullan, pushing Gemma Thomas further forward into centre midfield with Ashleigh Jones and Freya Davies.
Sarah Flower and Saffron Williams played on the wing with Amelia Roberts and new face Wood spearheading the attack.
Trearddur controlled possession from the off and were rewarded with an early goal when Flower passed the ball to Jones, who whipped in a good cross which was met on the back post by Saffron Williams who finished perfectly.
Bay carried on applying pressure but could not find a way through, despite going close a few times, which included Flower hitting the post from a good corner by McMullan.
There was a small mix up in defence which allowed Llan to equalise against the run of play on 22 minutes through 16-year-old Ana Lois White from a Sophie Evans assist, meaning the teams went into half time drawing 1-1.
Trearddur played against the strong wind in the second half.
Llanystumdwy thought they had made it 2-1 from a corner. Bay keeper Gemma Lancaster did well to come and claim the ball and had it in both hands before a visiting player bundled it into the back of the net, which the referee rightly disallowed.
The best chance of the second half went to Ashleigh Jones, who was played through brilliantly by Davies, but blasted her shot just over the bar.
Bay’s player of the match was awarded to Davies, who always works really hard for the team and is constantly a threat when she gets on the ball and runs at defenders.
