Village’s senior football team set for comeback

One of Valley’s successful past teams

Senior football is on its way back to an Anglesey village.

A Valley Seniors team is set to return to the North Wales soccer scene in 2024-25.

The new venture was announced on Facebook, where the club has published a designated page, this week.

Formerly known as CPD Y Fali, the senior team took a break from football for the current season, having previously campaigned in Tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One.

A statement from the new committee said: “We have been working hard behind the scenes to bring a new Valley Seniors team to the community.

“We have formed a brand new committee with passionate and motivated members, ensuring sustainability for the 2024/25 season and for the foreseeable future.

“By joining the existing Valley Juniors Football Club, this will cement a clear path for our youngsters, transitioning from junior to senior football.

“We are determined to contribute to Valley Juniors Football Club’s identity and success.

“We have had provisional approval from the league to join the upcoming season. We are looking to get our team up and running as early as possible.”

The first team to represent the village, based near Holyhead, was Valley Juniors in 1994-95. They stayed in the Anglesey League until 2001-02.

Valley FC joined the league in 2007-08, but lasted just two seasons after propping up the table in 2008-09.

In 2013-14 the village tried again, this time as Valley Athletic. On this occasion, it all came good as Athletic were crowned 2014-15 Anglesey League champions, making it a treble with the IPP Cup and Assist-a-Claim Cup triumphs. The Elias Cup followed in 2016-17.

The club became known as simply Valley, then CPD Y Valley, then in 2019-20, CPD Y Fali, which remained its name until the end of 2022-23.

In 2023, stalwart manager Dan Jones announced he was stepping down from all roles at the club at the end of the season.

CPD Y Fali tried to recruit new faces so the senior team could continue, but lack of response meant they would take a break for the current campaign.

Now they are set for a comeback under the new name Valley Seniors.
