Female football players in North Wales – your views are needed.

The Football Association of Wales is currently undergoing a review of the women’s and girls’ domestic game across the country.

Particular focus is being placed on under-16s and player retention and the transition to the senior game and the provision for senior women.

The FAW aims to develop a clear pathway for women and girls from mini to senior football, with a well-structured offer for those who want to play informally and for those who want to play competitively.

The governing body is asking players currently playing in U16s or senior teams across Wales to take part in a survey to gather their feedback. The survey will close on 24 February 2020.

Lowri Roberts, head of women’s and girls football in Wales, said: “Following the data gathered from these surveys we will be able to pick out key themes and topics for further discussion with some focus groups in March. We will be looking to invite some players from the women’s game across North Wales to these focus groups.”

Grassroots North Wales believes there is massive room for improvement in what is available to progress women’s and girls football in North Wales.

We often feel the poor relation and the fact there is now no North Wales team in the national league speaks volumes.

There is also not enough opportunity for North Wales girls/women to get involved in the national set-up, which seems to be geared far too much towards the south.

It would be good to see a large response to this survey from the north so those in power in Cardiff can see what we want, assess our needs, and hopefully act on them.
