MATCH REPORTS – Cymru North: Sub Darren Thomas on target in Port victory, Bangor City 1876, Mold, Bala all win

Porthmadog sat proudly on top of the Cymru North table on Friday night after a victory which saw returning idol Darren Thomas score just five minutes after taking the field as a second half substitute.
Thomas’ departure from Caernarfon Town was the story of the week in Welsh football and it was no great surprise that he returned to a club he served between 2011-13. And it was no shock either that the Cofi Messi marked his comeback in a Port shirt with a goal.
A penalty from Dylan Summers-Jones handed Chris Jones’ visiting side a half time lead, but 10 minutes into the second period Alfie Vaughan brought Denbigh level.
Thomas replaced Gwion Dafydd on 61 minutes and after 66 the super sub had fired Port 2-1 up from an Osian Ellis assist.
Harry Martin made it 2-2 on 72, but Ellis edged the Traeth outfit in front for a third time after 77 and on this occasion they held onto the lead.

Holyhead Hotspur 2 Bangor 1876 3

Trailing 2-1 at half time, two goals in a five-minute spell early in the second period proved sufficient to earn Bangor a hard-fought win at the New Stadium.
In a thrilling start, Declan McManus gave the Citizens a third-minute lead from an Isaac Godwin assist.
Five minutes later Hotspur were level, new signing Byron Davis finding the net, Connor Owen the supplier.
And it was Owen himself who made it 2-1 Holyhead on 22 minutes, Ifan Emlyn Jones setting him up.
It needed some good defending, from Blaine Hudson in particular, to ensure Bangor were not further behind at the break.
Michael Johnston’s side came out all guns blazing for the second half and by the 55th minute they were in front.
Jack Smith made it two-apiece with a cracking finish before McManus converted a penalty awarded for a foul on James Barry.
And perhaps surprisingly, given the attacking nature of the two sides, that was the end of the scoring.

Bala Town 3 Gresford Athletic 0

Bala maintained their 100 percent record with a three-goal victory at home to Gresford.
It looked like the first half would end goalless until in the 45th minute, Craig Lindfield broke the deadlock via a Tom Kelly assist.
Kelly provided the opening again eight minutes into the second half for Charlie Fisher to make it two.
And the points were all but in the bag when former Caernarfon Town midfielder Iwan Lewis delivered a third goal for the Lakesiders on 58.

Mold Alexandra 1 Buckley Town 0

Max McGoona’s 57th minute strike settled this close-fought Flintshire derby in Mold’s favour.
Kieran Owens provided the assist for the 18-year-old prospect McGoona to bag the vital decider.
