NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE EAST – OCTOBER 22, 2023

Northop Hall 1 (Allen 45+1)
Denbigh Town 3 (Firth 3, Kell 31, Purvis 90)

Two assists and a goal – Ceri Purvis still has the magic touch.

Thirty years ago Ceri was a member of the Pilkington (Rhyl) side which won the first ever FAW Women’s Welsh Cup, beating Inter Cardiff 1-0 in the 1993 final.

And now in 2023, the evergreen star continues to impress for her current side Denbigh Town, who made it four straight wins on Sunday.

Town got off to the perfect start, taking the lead inside just three minutes when Purvis fed the ball through to Jess Frith, who galloped down the right and finished well to score via the post.

In a comfortable first-half for Ellen Lawson’s side, they duly doubled the advantage just after the half-hour mark, as Purvis once again turned provider when her shot was touched home on route to goal by Beth Kell for a superb finish.

Northop continued to look for a way back and halved the deficit seconds before the break as Daisy Allen netted via a free-kick.

After the restart, Northop pushed for the all-important leveller but Denbigh’s defence remained firm throughout.

The game was wrapped up in the 90th minute when captain Elen James-Owen threaded a ball through the middle to the experienced Purvis to calmly slot past the ‘keeper one-on-one for a thoroughly deserved goal.
