CPDM Y Felinheli report
Felinheli got off and running in the Welsh Cup on Sunday with a convincing 6-1 win away to Bangor at Nantporth.
With a handful of players missing due to the Wales game against Croatia in Cardiff and a bout of illness that had hit the squad, Felinheli coped very well with the challenge and put on a clinical performance in front of goal.
The game started with both teams trying to stamp their authority on the game and trying to play football, but it was Felinheli who took control, producing some lovely play and also being very organised and defending well without the ball.
It didn’t take long for Felin to take the lead through Fflur Williams on the three-minute mark from close range thanks to some great work from Ffion Williams down the left wing.
The second came In the 22nd minute with Shannon Jones turning provider. Again some good football through the middle of the park from both Jenna Tugwell-Allsup and Jones, who played the ball to Fflur Williams and she struck a powerful strike from 25 yards out into the roof of the net.
Bangor still carried a threat on the counter and with Jody Cain out of position due to being involved in a previous attack, Cerys Macdonald went through on goal only to strike the bar.
Felin took that as a warning and kept the pressure on and they were rewarded in the 38th minute with a Katie Midwinter goal.
Again some great work from Tugwell-Allsup and Jones at the edge of Bangor’s area, the latter then releasing Midwinter who beat one player, rounded the keeper and slotted home in classy fashion to make it 3-0.
Bangor did pull a goal back before the break after a lapse of concentration from the Felin back-four.
Ella Jones, who was not tracked, received the ball and rocketed a shot into the roof of the net.
Half-time: 1-3
Felin made a change at half time with Llio Henshaw coming on to replace the unwell Jordanne Greenough, Jody Cain slotting into right back.
The second half started in the same manner as the first with Felin’s relentless pressure on and off the ball seeming to put Bangor off their normal game.
Elin Jones received a yellow card on 52 minutes for an off the ball altercation with Nel Huws
On 58 minutes, Elin Jones saw a second yellow for a foul on Ffion Williams and Bangor were down to 10.
Felinheli took full advantage from the resulting free kick with Nel Huws curling the ball into the box and Fflur Williams on hand to complete her hat-trick.
Both teams made changes with Ella Jones coming off for Bangor and Nel Huws, Shannon Jones and Katie Midwinter coming off for Felin to be replaced by Kyla Cain, Lois Williams and Llio Emyr.
In the 69th minute Felin made it 5-1 with a Catrin Evans penalty.
Felinheli weren’t done, with Catrin Evans notching up her 5th goal of the season and the team’s sixth on the day through some intricate play in Bangor’s box. Fflur Williams released Evans and she powered her shot in off the bar to complete a good day at the office for Felinheli.
Bangor almost pulled one back only to be denied by a superb Catrin Beech save.
Felinheli manager Aaron Jones-Evans said: “I’m really proud of my players for keeping their cool and just concentrating on the task at hand.
“The girls played some great football and really controlled the pace of the game, they never looked like letting Bangor into the game, a very professional performance and we look forward to being in the hat for the next round.”
CPDM BANGOR REPORT…..

Bangor manager Aron Griffith said: “Very tough one to take for ourselves. That’s the heaviest defeat we’ve had in a long time; we got caught in a battle instead of playing our own football and it dampened our performance.
“When we did play football we were creating chances. We shall regroup and not dwell on that game and need to prepare for our next game “
