The tie of the round saw the first and second-placed teams in the North Wales Coast East Premier Division take on each other at Swan Road.
And it was the side currently second in the table, Mochdre Sports, who overcame the challenge of leaders Meliden and ended their seven-match winning run.
Both clubs are absolutely teeming with great characters, but for 90 minutes on Saturday there was no time for joking – it was the serious business of winning a cup match at stake.
As expected, it was a well-contested second round tie, but Mochdre progressed to the quarter-finals thanks to goals from that man Ste Falvey and Gaz Jones.
Falvey scored first to give the hosts the lead on 11 minutes when he reacted first to a loose ball in the box following a corner.
Jones put the icing on the cake in the 76th minute when he rose highest to head home from a Josh Grimshaw flag-kick.
Kai Davies was man of the match for the winning side.
Goals galore at Cae Nant where Llandyrnog lost for a third time in knockout competition to NFA this season, but on this occasion the Vale of Clwyd villagers ran their Rhyl-based visitors closer than they managed in the first two encounters.
Having beaten Dyrny 4-1 in both the Welsh Cup and FAW Amateur Trophy already in 2023-24, this time NFA scored seven against familiar opponents but also conceded an unexpected five.
In a cracking first half, Antonio Jacovelli struck first for the visitors after nine minutes, but Alfie Harrison levelled on 13 and David Lawson-Cooke edged the hosts in front with 18 gone.
Jay Whitehouse made it 2-2 on 24 and a Niall McGuinness goal gave NFA a narrow half-time lead.
A minute into the second half, Tom Kemp put the away team 4-2 to the good, but Llandyrnog were far from finished, a Lawson-Cooke double, one a penalty, giving him a hat-trick and the match now stood 4-4 on the hour.
Game on!
NFA knew they had to raise their game and did so, Whitehouse making it 5-4 on 75 before sub Paul Brady added another in the 79th minute.
The Rhyl outfit could finally feel safe when Jacovelli made it 7-4 on the 90, but Llandyrnog kept going and scored the last goal of the tie through Daniel Smith.
Two late goals made sure Penrhyndeudraeth advanced to the last eight.
The visitors got off to a flyer, Gwion Davies opening the scoring on three minutes before Alun Hughes made it 2-0 with just five gone.
Llanfairfechan came back well, Dan Hughes and Osian Roberts putting them level before the interval.
It stayed 2-2 until the 73rd minute when Tom Hughes nudged the Cockles ahead once more.
Alun Hughes then missed a penalty, but a fourth for the travellers soon arrived via substitute Albert Nosakhare.
Junction halted a three-match losing run by recording an impressive triumph at Penrhiw in the Intermediate Cup.
The Railwaymen were thrown off the rails early on when they had Daniel Prince red-carded with just 14 minutes played.
There was no score at half time, but in the second period the 10 men really stepped up to the plate.
Curtis Cooper broke the deadlock on 54 minutes, then Daniel Roberts struck at the double after 71 and 89 respectively.
Recent signing from Llangefni Town, Iwan Sawicz, bagged the winning goal for Glantraeth in the 79th minute at Bryniau Field.
A good Anglesey derby saw Connor Gordon put Glan ahead in the 37th minute.
Just before the break, the brilliantly-named Yannic Mundle-Garratt made his mark for Pentraeth with the equaliser.
The second half remained all-square until Glantraeth new man Sawicz finished off a Steven Jones assist with 11 minutes of the 90 left.
A mighty performance by Trearddur Bay left highly-rated Phoenix shell-shocked and ensured there will be four Ynys Môn teams in the quarter-finals of the NWCFA Intermediate Cup.
Not surprisingly, Asa Thomas set the ball rolling when he began the home scoring with a 27th minute goal from a Thomas Lennon assist.
Former Bangor 1876 star Les Davies made his debut for the Bay and it was he who set up Thomas for his second after 39 – it was Asa’s 15th goal of the campaign.
Thomas turned provider close to half time when he helped Matt Reynolds make it 3-0.
Into the second half, and on 55 minutes there was a special moment for Les Davies when he fired in his first goal for Bay.
It was now very comfortable for Nick Dumbarton’s side, who increased their lead after 65 through midfield ace Jay Gibbs, Thomas adding another assist.
And Asa made it a hat-trick of set-ups when he enabled Mike Edwards to bang in number six with 88 on the clock.
