Ardal Northern – reports for East and West: Rhyl 1879 hit summit, Albion on fire

ARDAL NORTHERN REPORTS – OCTOBER 7, 2023
ARDAL NORTH WEST

CPD Rhyl 1879 3 Conwy Borough 1

Gareth Thomas’ Rhyl 1879 side regained top spot after a hard-fought win over a Conwy outfit who performed really well for no reward.
The Lilywhites took a ninth-minute lead when Oli Buckley scored from a Miles Todd assist.
Former Holywell Town, Prestatyn Town and Rhyl FC striker Buckley completed a double in the 24th minute, James Cairns this time the provider.
Three minutes later Conwy were back in the contest, Jack Williams on target, Stevie Jones setting him up.
It remained 2-1 up to half time, setting up a fascinating second period.
Chances fell at both ends and Conwy could easily have been on terms before the issue was settled in the 92nd minute, 1879’s Mark Roberts scoring from the penalty spot.
Bethesda Athletic 1 Flint Mountain 2
A 90th minute decider from Joe Holt ensured Flint Mountain took the points home.
Third-from-bottom Bethesda, without a league win in five attempts, led at the break thanks to a Kian Hughes goal on 34 minutes.
Tom Ruffer levelled for Aden Shannon’s men from the penalty spot after 59 minutes and a draw looked the likely outcome before Holt delivered a timely first goal for the Mountain.
Brickfield Rangers 1 Y Felinheli 0

It was tight all the way at Clywedog Park, but Brickfield claimed the win thanks to a deflected 52nd minute goal from Jay Richardson.
Felinheli continued their run of good displays, which saw them unbeaten in four matches before Saturday, but they were unable to get past impressive Bricky keeper Cameron Dutton.
CPD Llannefydd 2 Llay Welfare 0
Llannefydd again proved an ability to beat anyone on their day as they overcame the challenge of previous leaders Llay.
In what was a game of two halves, the Welly hit the post twice and missed three clear cut chances in the opening 45 minutes with the wind against them.
The second half saw the visitors go off the boil and become completely ineffective in attack.
Llannefydd deservedly went on to win, Tom Jones putting them in front on 54 minutes from a Morgan Jones assist, then in added time Llion Morris made sure of victory with a second home goal.
To complete Llay’s misery, they had Jared Taylor dismissed for a second yellow with 88 on the clock.
Nantlle Vale 2 Holyhead Hotspur 0
Unbeaten Nantlle Vale made it seven games without loss and sit second in the table following a fine home win over Holyhead.
It could have been a different story had Cory Williams not missed a 14th minute penalty for the visitors.
The scoresheet was blank at the interval, but five minutes into the second half Cai Morgan broke the deadlock from a Cai Parry assist.
Ashley Owen completed the job with an 84th minute second for the Maes Dulyn men.
Saltney Town 1 Pwllheli 3
Ashley Ainsworth made it four goals in two matches for his new club with a double in Pwllheli’s triumph at the Dragon Steel Stadium.
Ainsworth put the visitors ahead on 12 minutes, but Lewis Bevan levelled matters after 18 from a Sam Reynolds assist.
Carl Jones restored the Llŷn Peninsula team’s lead on 70 minutes and Ainsworth sealed the away win by netting after 88.
St Asaph City 3 Hawarden Rangers 2
Perhaps the most dramatic game of the day occurred at Roe Plas Meadows where three goals in the closing minutes snatched a hard-earned win for the Saints.
Bottom side Hawarden, with just a point from eight matches, took a surprise 32nd minute lead through Paul Lindfield.
Rangers remained one-up until the 85th minute when substitute Josh Brown found an equaliser.
Asaph now had their hails up and edged ahead on 87 when a free kick was blocked and veteran David Hayes fired in an absolute rocket from the rebound.
Five minutes into added time, Jackson Brewerton made it 3-1 and despite Tom Gunson pulling one back for plucky Hawarden on 97, it was not enough to save their skins.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Llanfair United 0 Cefn Albion 2
Albion’s third league win on the bounce lifted them to fourth in the table, just a point off the lead.
Saturday’s victory at Mount Field was a fifth in a row in all competitions for Neil Ashton’s side.
After a goalless first half, Llanfair were in big trouble following red cards for Flynn Morris and Paul Griffiths on 63 and 65 minutes respectively.
Cefn now pushed on to break the deadlock and did just that after 75 minutes when Callum Stephens headed against the post, but then smashed home the rebound.
On 82 minutes the points were sealed when Josh Astley and Stephens combined well before the latter supplied the pass for Alex Williams to apply a brilliant first-time finish.
Builth Wells 4 Llanrhaeadr 1
Jamie Evans, Ryan Powell, Daniel Hall and Lyndon Jones supplied the goals which booked Builth a welcome win at the expense of Llanrhaeadr, Gruff Evans replying.
Llandrindod Wells 3 Dolgellau Athletic 3
All-square at The Broadway, Liam Hall, Rob Nicholls and Rhys Davies on the mark for the hosts, while Paul Lewis and Gerwyn Williams (2) rescued a point for Dolgellau.
The visitors had Rob Evans sent off for a second yellow after 30 minutes.
Llangollen Town 1 Penrhyncoch 2
Daniel Owen and Geoff Kellaway were on target for Penrhyncoch in a close-fought win at Tower Fields.
Keiron Hughes netted for Llangollen, with third-place Penrhyn bagging the winner through veteran Kellaway on 74 minutes.
Llanuwchllyn 2 Llansantffraid Village 2
One of three clubs at the top end on 16 points apiece, Llansantffraid still lead the standings on goal difference after a commendable draw at in-form and undefeated Llanuwchllyn.
Sam Evans’ 23rd minute own goal put the visitors ahead, but Meilir Williams levelled from the penalty spot before half time.
Liam Pickstock edged Llansantffraid in front for a second time on 50 minutes, but a second Williams penalty after 88 ensured it ended two-apiece.
Penycae 2 Bow Street 3
Unbeaten high-flyers Bow Street needed a 93rd minute winner from Ifan Burrell to take full reward at lowly Penycae.
Burrell scored Bow’s opener on 14 minutes, but Harry Killick made it one-each after 35.
On 75 minutes, Killick struck again to give the hosts an unexpected lead, but Ben Davies restored parity after 82.
And the away side snatched the verdict when Burrell netted in added time.
