JD Cymru North – wins for Bangor 1876, Mold and Ruthin Town

JD CYMRU NORTH REPORTS – SEPTEMBER 24

Caersws 2 (Harris 14 & 16)
Bangor City 3 (Morris 52 & 82; McGonigle pen 54)

Two goals from Liam Morris – including an 82nd minute winner – helped 1876 produce a fantastic comeback from 2-0 down to take all three points at the Recreation Ground.
Bangor threatened in the eighth minute when a Dan Cox throw-in found Sam Jones inside the box. From a tight angle on the right, Jones delivered a driving effort at Caersws goalkeeper Jack Perry, who did well to tip the ball over the bar.
Minutes later, Sam Jones leapt to meet a Corey Jones cross, but his header went inches over.
Despite Bangor’s early pressure, it was Caersws who opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Visiting keeper Huw Shaw showed great composure to stop Rhys Hesden’s effort with his feet, but the ball fell kindly to Craig Harris at the far post to tap in the rebound.
Caersws soon doubled their advantage. A neat free-kick routine saw Sam Phillips lift a cross into an area just inside the box where Harris was able to send a neatly-placed header just beyond the clutches of Shaw.
Bangor were unable to reply before the break, Corey Jones heading just wide of the left post before Corrig McGonigle’s firm strike was well saved by Perry.
The visitors began the second half well, Iolo Hughes’ towering header a whisker away from pulling a goal back.
In the 52nd minute the deficit was halved. From 20 yards out and with time to pick his spot, Morris unleashed a left-foot bullet that cannoned off the inside right post and into the net.
Bangor were soon level when Sam Jones was fouled in the box and McGonigle converted the spot kick.
McGonigle went close to making it 3-2 before substitute Gethin Thomas almost made an immediate impact.
A long free-kick from Joe Culshaw was cleared by Caersws but only as far as the penalty arc where Thomas’ venomous first-time volley was goal-bound only for it to be cleared off the line.
Thomas’ introduction was a nuisance to the Caersws back-line and it paid off in the 82nd minute. The sub was involved in good interplay with Morris, who finished well into the bottom-right corner from an acute angle to win the match.
Ruthin Town 3 Chirk AAA 2
All the goals came in the first half at the Memorial Playing Fields, where hosts Ruthin ran out narrow winners over Chirk.
Soulayman El Amri handed the hosts a ninth-minute lead before the visitors levelled soon after through a Tom Dyer own goal.
Chirk had Josh Evans red-carded on 37 minutes, but despite this Rhys Edwards made it 2-1 to the away side after 40.
A Dyer penalty and Sam Jones goal in added time made it 3-2 to Town at the interval and that is how it stayed.
Mold Alexandra 3 Guilsfield 0
A fifth straight win in all competitions for Mold lifted them up to fourth in the Cymru North.
Taking on a Guilsfield side undefeated in six matches, the Alex were good value for their victory at Alyn Park.
Steve Watkins put the hosts ahead on six minutes, a Iwan Matthews own goal doubled the score after 20 and Jake Roberts made it 3-0 close to the turnaround.
The second half produced no further goals.
Flint Town United 1 Holywell Town 1
The battle of the top two at the Essity Stadium finished all-square.
Holywell led 1-0 at half time though a Jake Cooke goal and it was not until the 96th minute that Flint managed to equalise through a Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro penalty.
The Wellmen had Danny Sullivan red carded with 97 on the clock.
