North Wales women’s football round-up for Sunday, September 3

Five goals on your debut in tier 2 isn’t bad! Take a bow Stevie Donougher!

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL REPORTS – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

GENERO ADRAN NORTH

NFA 1 Llandudno 10

Maddie Williams reached 50 goals for Llandudno with a hat-trick at Ffordd Derwen, but it was new signing Stevie Donougher who stole the show with a five-goal debut.

Australian student Donougher netted 27 goals for North Wales Women’s League champions Bangor last season, but has decided on a change of scene this term by joining the 2021-22 Genero Adran North title-winners.

As for tier 2 newcomers NFA, it was an opening day higher league experience to forget, but hopefully they will have better times.

Donougher set up Williams for the opening goal on 17 minutes before the Aussie doubled the lead after 20.

Williams, who scored 32 goals in her first season with Llandudno and 16 last, reached the magic 50 for the club in just 45 appearances on 44 minutes, Stacey Tradewell with the assist.

Half-time: 0-3

The second half saw the floodgates open, Tradewell netting from the penalty spot before setting up Sioned Phillips for number five on 64 minutes.

Donougher struck again, but Williams was first to her treble, Erin Doran teeing her up after 74.

It was Donougher who now took centre stage, scoring on 76, 83 and 86 to bring up double figures.

NFA did have something to show for their efforts, Jess Mills putting away a consolation goal in added time.

CPDM Bangor 0 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1

Sade Benjamin did the job she was brought in to do – find the net – and her goal was enough to earn Rhyl the opening day spoils at Nantporth.

Former NFA striker Benjamin made the breakthrough on 18 minutes when she latched onto a Rachael Thomas through ball, her pace took her clear and she finished well from close range.

Captain Rachael Thomas struck the crossbar from a free-kick in the second half.

Llanfair United 0 CPDM Y Felinheli 4

Shannon Jade Jones struck twice for a Felinheli side which ran out comfortable winners at Mount Field.

Attacking midfielder Jones scored on 55 and 58 minutes, with Nel Huws and Jordanne Greenough finding the net for the visitors in the first half.
