A thriller at Tyn-y-Caeau saw Brymbo’s title hopes take a knock as champions Menai Bridge kept themselves in the hunt with a narrow nine-run victory.

Skipper Gethin Roberts played a true captain’s innings of 78 in the Bridge’s total of 200 all out, the islanders calling the coin correctly and opting to bat.

Dion Holden (27), Robbie Jones (26) and Will Blair (22) added useful runs, while Jack Whitley snapped up 3-34 and Daniel Parry a superb 2-9 off 7.3 for the Steelmen.

Brymbo were always in contention in their reply, but they were left wanting that one big innings that would have turned the tide.

They ended up 191 all out, Christopher Taylor best with 30, Connor Davies 26 and captain Parry 24, Blair 3-35, Holden and Gerallt Roberts both 2-27.

ST ASAPH (14) 113-2 HALKYN (1) 112-10

Saints cruised to 113-2 in 35.5 for a 14-1 points win, Duncan Midgley 54 and Nathanael Scott 45 not out.
