WELSH CUP FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND – JULY 28

NORTH WEST/CENTRAL

Aberffraw 3 Penrhyndeudraeth 4

Veteran Tom Hughes struck twice and laid on an assist for Penrhyndeudraeth who edged a seven-goal thriller at Cae Cynlas.
Penrhyn took a 15th minute lead when Tom Hughes fed a great ball into the path of winger Deio Hughes and he applied a composed finish.
Tomos Hughes levelled for Aberffraw on the half-hour but two minutes before the break Tom Hughes made it 2-1 to the visitors with a beautiful lobbed effort over keeper Maddox Owen.
Berffro were back on terms after 62 minutes when Tomos Hughes netted from the spot, but a penalty at the other end, this time converted by Tom Hughes, put Penrhyn 3-2 up.
A thunderous strike from Cedri Jones on 85 minutes put the Cockles two ahead and despite Tomos Hughes completing a treble for Aber, it was not enough to save them from defeat.

Amlwch Town 1 Llanrug United 0

Substitute Shane Jones earned Amlwch a place in the next round with a 92nd minute decider at Lon Bach.
Both sides were reduced 10 men on the half-hour when Amlwch’s Josh Griffiths and Llanrug keeper Dylan Roberts received their marching orders.

Bethesda Athletic 1 Llanrwst United 4

Callum Parry was a four-goal hero for a Llanrwst side which emphatically won one of the most eagerly-awaited ties of the round.
This meeting of tier 3 Ardal North West sides saw Parry edge the Rwsters in front on 24 minutes from a Cai Evans free kick.
Two minutes into the second half, Daniel Hughes equalised for Pesda, but before the hour Parry had nudged the Conwy Valley men into the lead again.
Parry brought up his hat-trick on 75 before putting the icing on the cake with a fantastic chip into the top corner for 4-1.

Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs 1 Boded 3

Newcomers Boded will always remember their debut game – an eventful 3-1 Welsh Cup victory at Cae Clyd.
Although the hosts took a 58th minute lead after a goalless first half, three late goals clinched it for the Anglesey visitors.
Casey Boylan equalised from the penalty spot after Blaenau had Oliver Dukes-Morgan and Joe Dukes-Morgan both red carded.
Boylan made it 2-1 on 88, then Chris Jones sealed it for the islanders deep into added time.

Caer Clwyd 2 Rhos United 6

Bret Durkan

Lewis Sealey and Bret Durkan both struck twice in an emphatic victory for Rhos.
A Shaun Edwards own goal on seven minutes put the visitors one-up, then Durkan scored before Thomas Wynne pulled one back.
Scott Court netted on 33 minutes to put Rhos 3-1 ahead at the break.
Sealey’s double and a second also for Durkan put the travellers out of sight in the second half, Francis Roberts with a consolation for Clwyd

Cemaes Bay 1 Talysarn Celts 2

Aled Jones was a two-goal hero for Talysarn in this contest between two tier 4 North Wales Coast West League sides at School Lane.
Tom Wood fired Cemaes in front on 43 minutes, but Jones made it one-all in first half added time before adding the winner after 70.

Cerrigydrudion 3 Llandudno Amateurs 3 (Cerrig won 3-1 on pens)

Heartbreak for underdogs Llandudno Amateurs as they lost out on penalties after holding higher division Cerrigydrudion to a 3-3 draw.
Mike Chapman gave the visitors a 64th minute lead, only for Tegid Williams to square the tie moments later.
Joe Jones put Llandudno back in front on 89. Tomos Jones restored parity three minutes into added time and there was still enough on the clock for two more goals, Ilan Roberts giving Cerrig the lead before Azz Rogers forced a shoot-out.

Glan Conwy 0 Rhuddlan Town 2

Ryan Gordon and Andy Booker (penalty) bagged the first-half goals which secured new-look Rhuddlan cup success at Cae Ffwt.
Big credit to new manager Phil Peabody and his backroom staff who have rebuilt this Town squad after the departure of so many key players over the summer.
The young players to stay have been joined by some experienced heads and though it has been a hard transition, Saturday’s result was a real boost.
From the very start Rhuddlan pressed and gave the opposition no room at all.
With the pressing came an opportunity for Gordon, a menace throughout, who opened the scoring after 12 minutes.
Glan Conwy came back strongly and it needed a couple of fine saves from Andrew Symonds to prevent an equaliser.
In the 23rd minute that man Gordon was prominent again as he earned a penalty which Booker converted.
For the rest of the half, Town had the upper hand with Jack Murray denied in a one-on-one.
The second half was more scrappy and Glan had their chances but could not take them.
The final whistle blew on a determined and courageous Rhuddlan performance which delivered a second qualifying round place.

Glantraeth 3 Gwalchmai 0

Really impressive performance from Glantraeth in this Anglesey derby, Aron Jones and Dylan Williams (2, 1 penalty) with the goals that booked the win.
Jones broke the deadlock on 22 minutes, Williams adding his double with goals either side of half time.

Holyhead Town 2 Bethesda Rovers 0

Mark Queen’s first game as Holyhead Town manager ended in a Welsh Cup triumph at home to Bethesda Rovers at a windy Millbank.
It proved to be a game of two halves because of the strong wind. Town were against it for the first half and frustrated the visitors with dogged defending, restricting Bethesda to shots from distance that did not trouble the home goal.
The second half started with a bang for the Harbourmen, as a direct shot from Callum Queen at the kick off was spilled by keeper Jonathan Gould and Trist Hughes was there to smash the ball in from close range.
More pressure followed and several chances created, with Andy Will driving the ball into the bottom corner after being teed up by Paul Williams.

Llanberis 7 Bontnewydd 2

Ifan Mansoor was a hat-trick star for the Darans in this home caning of Bontnewydd.
Tom Saynor and Louis Williams added further net-finders for the hosts, while Meilir Owen and Cristian Rowley both conceded own goals.
Luke Phillips scored both for Bont.

Llandyrnog United 3 Bro Cernyw 0

Sean James notched all three goals for Llandyrnog, scoring on 10, 45 and 69 minutes to guide the Vale of Clwyd villagers into the next round.

Llangoed 3 Llanfairpwll 6

Cian Owen (3), Rees Roberts (2) and the returning Jay Finter shared the goals as Llanfairpwll prevailed at Tyddyn Paun.
Nathaniel Evans, Anthony Williams and Mathew Owen replied for Llangoed, who were level at 2-2 come the interval.

Llannerchymedd 0 Nantlle Vale 2

Ashley Owen (17 minutes) and Cai Parry (82) nabbed the goals that mattered to ensure Nantlle Vale advanced.
Jamie Thomas was red-carded for the visitors on 63 minutes.

Meliden 0 Kinmel Bay 2

A sizable crowd gathered at The Mine to see Kinmel Bay triumph in this all-tier 4 tussle with two second half goals.
Last season’s netting machine Connor Morris made the breakthrough on 47 minutes via a Liam Morris assist.
Luke Astley’s own goal on 63 minutes doubled the away advantage.

Mochdre Sports 3 Llanfairfechan Town 2

A cup tie that kicked into life in the second half with four goals in 10 minutes ended with Mochdre through to the next round of the Welsh Cup.
The first half was tough for both sides as they looked to get the better of each other, and a strong wind. Chances were few and far between with nothing much to write home for from either side.
After half time, Mochdre struck first from the spot. New signing Chris Smyth was hauled down when through on goal, Josh Grimshaw stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.
Llanfair bounced back immediately with a beautifully struck free-kick from James Cory on 54 minutes.
Smyth capped his debut with a goal on 58, when he sprang the offside trap to race through, beat the keeper in a challenge and roll the ball into an empty net.
Again, Llanfair went straight up the other end to equalise through Harry Croston with 61 on the clock.
Bobby Tudor scored a 70th minute penalty winner awarded for a foul on sub Anuar Seilkhanov.

Nefyn United 3 Cefni 1

A great performance from the tier 5 visitors versus fourth-tier Nefyn.
Llyr Williams handed the Penwaig an eighth-minute lead before Dion Jones levelled on 33 to make it 1-1 at half time.
In the second half Cefni would have been ahead only for a marvellous save from Tristan Harrison to keep out a Dylan Griffith volley.
Williams made it 2-1 to Nefyn, after which Cefni lost two defenders – one to injury and another to a second yellow – and this ended their hopes.
Match-winner Williams completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in added time.

NFA 6 Penrhyn Bay 0

Matthew Rees (2), James Stead, Tom Kemp, Antonio Jacovelli and substitute David McHugh split the goals for NFA in this comfortable win.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3 Bow FC 2

Visiting underdogs Bow gave their hosts a real run for their money despite finishing the game with nine men.
This was tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier versus tier 5 Division One and it was Phoenix who struck first on 21 minutes through midfield veteran Ricky Jones.
Kyle Robb levelled a minute later, but in no time Daniel Hughes made it 2-1 to Pen.
Bow had Robb red-carded on 41 and the scoreline remained unaltered up to half time.
Ricky Jones added a third for Phoenix after 53 and when Loui O’Carroll saw red for the visitors on 54 it looked like curtains for them.
However, the Prestatyn-based side battled on and cut the deficit through Charlie Jones on 70.
Bow never gave up, but Pen held on for the victory.

Pwllheli 2 Llangefni Town 1

Carl Jones

One of the glamour ties of the round saw Pwllheli edge through at Llangefni’s expense.
After a goalless first half, veteran Carl Jones put Pwll one-up in the 67th minute, Steffan Toplis with the assist.
Matty Jones brought Cefni level on 76, but Carl Jones soon fired the home side back into the ascendancy and it remained 2-1.

CPD Y Felinheli 5 Trearddur Bay 1

With the quality in their ranks, this was one where Trearddur Bay might have been fancied to cause an upset, but Y Felinheli were in no mood to be victims of a giant-killing.
Iwan Owen was different class on the day for the tier 3 hosts, scoring twice, while Iwan Edwards, Gruff John and Cal Macdonald netted one apiece.
Asa Thomas notched a consolation from the penalty spot for fourth-tier Trearddur.
