Island Games: Late change of opponent in play-off for Ynys Môn women

There has been a change of opponent for Ynys Môn women in tomorrow’s Island Games football 5th-6th place play-off final.

Instead of facing original opponents Menorca, Dan Gregg’s side will now take on Jersey, who have been denied a place in the semis due to an administrative error by organisers.

Jersey had expected to play in the last four after being told they were the best second-placed side.

But an error with the number of yellow cards, which were used as part of the decision-making process, saw rivals Menorca lodge a successful appeal.

Menorca won a subsequent coin toss to decide which island would progress.

With both islands finishing second in their respective groups, Ynys Môn would have faced a tough test whoever they encountered, but the Anglesey girls are more than capable of proving a difficult hurdle to overcome for anyone.

Tomorrow (Thursday) sees the return of football after today’s rest day.
