Another crippling blow for Llandudno FC after manager Sean Eardley resigns
Uncertainty over the future of Llandudno Football Club has led to popular first team manager Sean Eardley resigning today.
The Cymru North club has been unable to play at home ground Maesdu Park for several months due to deterioration of its 3G pitch.
This week the Seasiders suffered a major blow after an application for Welsh Government funding to replace the surface was denied.
The club now faces another season of playing in exile.
Last night long-serving striker Marc Williams announced he was leaving the club and today boss Eardley, who took over as manager at Maesdu Park in 2020 and has previous long association with Tudno as a player, has followed suit.
Eardley said: “It is with a heavy heart that I’ve decided to step down as first team manager at Llandudno FC.
“Over the last couple of seasons we have faced many obstacles as a management and playing staff, but have maintained our integrity, professionalism and togetherness throughout.
“To Dave (Guinn) and the members of the board who worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the past few months, the efforts have been unbelievable but sadly it wasn’t meant to be.
“To the amazing volunteers, thank you so much for everything you have done, you are simply irreplaceable and deserve a huge amount of credit.
“Thank you to the supporters who have followed us the length of the country and stuck with us, I hope I’ve left some fond memories for you to talk about for seasons to come.
“Finally to my amazing management team and players, thank you so much for your efforts, dedication and sacrifice during my tenure! An unbelievable changing room with too many memories and I genuinely wish you all the best in your future endeavours.”
Despite not having a home, Llandudno FC, who also recently lost academy status, finished third in the Cymru North last season.
When the 3G pitch was officially opened by former Wales manager Chris Coleman in August 2014, the future looked bright for the coast club.
After winning the 2014-15 Cymru Alliance title, they were promoted to the top-tier Welsh Premier for the first time.
They finished third in their debut season, qualifying for Europe, but lost top flight status by the end of 2018-19.
