Meet the Ynys Môn 2023 Island Games female football squad

Ynys Môn women football squad for 2023 Island Games

Ceri Pritchard (Amlwch Town)

Understudy to Wales international Nicky Davies at the 2019 Inter-Games, but expected to make her Ynys Môn competitive playing debut in Guernsey.

Regular keeper for Amlwch Town, with whom she won the Supplementary Cup in 2018/19 and North Wales League Division Two title in 2019/20.

Jessica Marshall (Llangefni Town)

Jess Marshall holds on to the ball with Nia Ginnelly close by

Vastly improved goalkeeper who has come on in leaps and bounds with Llangefni Town’s developing side over the past two seasons.

Has shown a talent for saving penalties on more than one occasion.

Marissa George (Llangefni Town)

Right-back who has deservedly earned her place in the Ynys Môn squad after a highly consistent season with Llangefni Town.

Underrated but massively appreciated at her club.

Sara Furlong (Amlwch Town)

Mainly a right-midfielder, but very versatile and can also adapt to a defensive role as she did for Ynys Môn in the 2019 Inter-Games, where Anglesey made it all the way to the final.

Has played for Llangefni and Bangor in the past, but is mainly known for her spells with Amlwch Town, contributing more than her share of goals.

Llinos Hughes (Llangefni Town)

Vice-captain of Llangefni last season and stood out as a defender in a much-improved back-line.

Has made in excess of 40 appearances for Cefni over the team’s two campaigns and has constantly grown in stature.

Carol Lewis (c – Amlwch Town)

Centre-back and inspirational captain who has been a leading light in Amlwch Town’s rise to prominence in recent seasons.

The Llannerchymedd Lioness was part of the rock-solid defence which helped earn Anglesey a silver medal at the 2019 Inter-Games. Carol is about to compete in her fourth Island Games.

Emma Roberts (Amlwch Town)

Another who shone for Ynys Môn in 2019 and also represented the island at Gotland 2017.

Hard-working midfielder with good passing ability and a tremendous shot. Daughter of former Bangor City player and now Wales walking football star Stephen Roberts.

Ashleigh Jones (Trearddur Bay)

Ashleigh (right) had a tremendous 2022-23 season

Over the past two seasons Ashleigh has reached new heights in her career as a lion-hearted goal-scoring midfielder with Trearddur Bay.

Was part of the Amlwch Town squad which won the Supplementary Cup in 2018-19 and North Wales League Division Two title the following season.

Cerys Gadd (Amlwch Town)

One of the best Anglesey has produced.

Magnificent in the 2019 tournament, Cerys’ experience will be crucial in Guernsey.

Formerly with Bangor City and Caernarfon Town, where she won numerous trophies, Cerys has been a central figure for Amlwch in recent seasons. Amazing on the ball and scores goals, many of them crackers.

Joanna Bramwell (Amlwch Town)

Non-stop midfield dynamo who has developed into one of Amlwch’s finest performers in recent times.

Former stand-out player for Bangor University, Jo has helped Amlwch achieve back to back high-place finishes in the North Wales League.

Charlotte Gill (Huddersfield Town)

Midfielder who plays for Huddersfield Town in tier 3 FA Women’s National League North.

About to represent Ynys Môn for a third time at the Island Games.

Midfield playmaker who can score great goals. Netted for Anglesey in the 2017 games.

Started her career with Tranmere Rovers at under-14 and remained at the club for five years. She then joined Blackpool Ladies for three years before moving to Liverpool Feds, Guiseley Vixens and latterly Huddersfield.

Nia Ginnelly (vc – Llangefni Town)

Vice-captain of the squad and a tremendous leader, having skippered Llangefni Town from the start.

Tough-tackling midfielder who contributes the occasional goal and always gives 100 percent.

Ever-present for Town, with 44 appearances to her credit.

Catrin George (Llangefni Town)

Very versatile performer who is coming off the back of an excellent 2022-23 season for Llangefni.

Prefers central-midfield, but can adapt to a defensive position with ease. Scores four times for the all-blues last term.

Ellie Sian Jones (Amlwch Town)

Truly superb young talent who scored 18 goals for Amlwch Town last season.

Attacking wide player who started off with Llangefni Girls, then began her senior career with Bethel of the tier 2 Adran North before switching to Amlwch in 2021-22.

Hannah Owen (Llangefni Town)

Can play left or right wing. Hannah has clocked up two great seasons with Llangefni, making 43 appearances and scoring seven goals.

Won joint Most Improved Player award for Cefni in 2022-23.

Represented Ynys Môn at the 2009 Island Games in Aland – at gymnastics.

Jen Cox (Llangefni Town)

Top scorer in the North Wales League last season with 28 goals and netted 30 in all competitions.

Over the past two seasons, she has amassed 41 goals in 35 appearances for Llangefni.

Robust centre-forward who formed a great attacking triumvirate with Ellie Coulson and Ffion Thomas last term.

Jess Jones (Llangefni Town)

A phenomenal goal-getter for Caernarfon Town Under-16’s, Jess signed for Llangefni last season and made a tremendous impact, netting seven times in 13 outings.

There is much excitement over this 17-year-old’s potential and she has the right background as her uncle is Ynys Môn net-busting legend Marc ‘Logs’ Evans.

Mia Roberts (Bangor 1876)

An outstanding youth player with Penrhyn Bay, Mia made a huge impression for CPD Merched Bangor Women last season, hitting 14 goals in 19 appearances as the invincible blues lifted the North Wales League title without losing a match.

Was dynamic all season playing in an advanced role either just in behind or alongside top-markswoman Stevie Donougher.

Tesni Hughes (Amlwch Town)

Female football on Anglesey is awash with young talent and Tesni Hughes is one of the very best.

Knocked in 22 goals last season for Amlwch, having put away 19 in 2021-22.

Aged just 19, her relentless running style and finishing ability makes her another one to watch in Guernsey.
