North Wales Cricket League Premier – top three beaten as Bangor, Menai and Mochdre strike

North Wales Cricket League Premier Division reports – July 1
Northop (3) 207-10 Bangor (12) 211-6
All of the Premier Division top three lost on Saturday with Bangor’s superb victory at Northop lifting them to fourth in the table.
It was a real thriller at Flint Road, the Citizens reaching their target with just three balls remaining.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat, making 207 all out off 49 overs, Matthew Williams best scorer with 51, while James Roberts added 31.
Franco Kasner stood out with the ball for the visitors, taking 5-34 off 10.
In reply, Bangor started well, Ryan Symonds-Mayes (30) and Owen Reilly (23) putting on 59 for the first wicket.
Sion Evans notched 29, but when the away side dipped to 157-5, Charlie Collins with a couple of quick victims, it was anyone’s game.
When Collins also dismissed Matthew Haswell for 12, it was 186-6 and entering the last over Bangor still had work to do.
However, in-form skipper Robbie Marshall was still there and his 73 not out did most to ensure the visitors got over the line, ending on 211-6 off 49.4 overs, Nathan Berry contributing a vital unbeaten 18.
Marshall hit seven fours and two sixes in his 83-ball knock.
Collins scooped 3-50 and Marlon Barclay 2-26 for Northop, but this was Bangor’s day.
Llandudno (4) 150-10 Denbigh (11) 169-10
A late rally in Llandudno’s innings – with Tom Thornton at the forefront – kept the home side in contention, but they finished up 19 runs short of the Denbigh total.
Put into bat, the visitors were bowled out for 169, Sam Lewis (41) and Kieran Gilly (35) chief contributors, while Oliver Hughes (3-22), Thornton (3-28) and Luke Regan (3-33) all performed well for the hosts.
At one stage 97-7 in response, Tudno did rally stoically down the order, with Thornton’s 38 not out giving them hope, but the all-rounder ran out of partners and The Oval side finished 150 all out.
Alexander Corver earlier made 36 for the hosts, while for Denbigh, Stuart Griffiths took 2-14, new full Wales international Harrison Jones 2-34 and Gilly 2-38.
Mochdre (11) 170-7 Brymbo (4) 154-10
Alex Davies’ fine effort of 58 did most to ensure Mochdre set a large enough target to deliver a blow to Brymbo’s hopes of returning to the top.
After calling the coin correctly and opting to bat, the hosts set a modest 170-7 off a reduced 40 overs, Davies’ half-ton added to by 30 from James French, Joe Norman bagging 3-33 and Christopher Taylor 2-25 for the Steelmen.
With the quality of their batting line-up, Brymbo would have been considered favourites to reach their target, but Mochdre sent them packing for 154.
Brad Kielow snapped up 3-31 and Owen Davies 3-43 for the home side, Jason Underwood 50 not out for the Wrexham-area outfit.
Mold (3) 173-10 Halkyn (12) 204-10
Nathan Roett’s superb 66 off as many balls set up Halkyn for a notable victory at Chester Road.
The promoted visitors continued their more than respectable start to life in Division One with a win, helped by them setting a good total of 204 all out after deciding to take first knock.
Roett struck 11 fours in his half-century, while Andrew Watkin added 35, Munowar Samsodien taking 3-21 and Richard Deniz 3-43 for Mold.
Ben Roberts then claimed a crucial 4-17 and Graeme Settle 3-19 as Mold collapsed from 144-3 to 173 all out.
Ewan Hill (52) and skipper George Deniz (46) had given the hosts a good start by putting on 65 for the first wicket, Daniel Drew posting 29 in the middle order.
Pontblyddyn (0) 49-10 Gresford (15) 51-0
Chris Ellwood’s 4-19 stood out as Gresford rolled over Pontblyddyn for just 49 after inserting the hosts at Alder Meadow.
Daniel Williams bagged 2-1 and Simon Perry 2-20, the hosts losing all their wickets in just 21.2 overs.
Gresford eased to 51-0 in 9.3, Daniel Williams 26 not out and Sam Thompson 20 no.
St Asaph (2) 130-10 Menai Bridge (13) 190-10
Leaders St Asaph were left stunned as a Menai Bridge side struggling for form turned them over at Elwy Park Grove.
Will Blair produced his best innings to date for the Anglesey side, hitting 83 as the Bridge were all out for 190.
A 62 stand for the sixth wicket between Blair and Gethin Roberts (27) proved important.
Danny Ryan impressed most for Saints with 5-38, Dan Evans collecting 2-18 off 10.
Despite 50 from Duncan Midgley, Asaph’s batting was not to its usual high standard in reply as they slumped to 130 all out.
Mathew Jones bagged 3-21 off 10 for the islanders, with the remaining wickets shared around. Points: 13-2 Menai Bridge.
