NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – JUNE 17

PREMIER DIVISION

Mold (0) 110-10 Brymbo (15) 279-9

An astonishing game saw leaders Brymbo slump to 27-6 before setting a maximum points match-winning score at Chester Road.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Steelmen were in all sorts of trouble after Mold bowlers Munowar Samsodien and John Crane wreaked havoc with the early order.

It needed something special from the visitors to get back into the game and it was provided by seventh-wicket pair Mohamed Nilan Jayman and skipper Daniel Parry, who put on 120.

Jayman was first to go for a 93-ball 78, but Parry went on to not only finish 88 not out, he also added another 101 with Gareth Boys, who struck 55 off 31 deliveries, including three sixes.

With the 10th wicket providing another 31, Brymbo eventually finished 279-9 off 50 overs.

Samsodien took 5-52, while the master of accuracy Crane snapped up 2-22 from 10.

How would Mold respond? Sadly for them not too well, the hosts getting bowled out for 110, Crane best with 36.

For the away side, Boys scooped 3-22, William Norman 3-43 and Jack Whitley 2-13.

Wales bowler Owen Reilly took a tremendous five-wicket haul and Sion Evans produced a vital innings for a Bangor side which won well at Ty Newydd.

A fourth straight win for the Citizens sees them fifth in the Premier after an unsteady start to the campaign.

Put into bat, Gresford astonishingly nosedived from 11-0 to 11-4 and then 27-5 as Reilly and Ryan Symonds-Mayes ripped through the top five.

Joe Benson (39) and Ryan Williams (22 no) did partly recover the situation, but the Colliers were eventually all out for 116 off 36.3 overs.

Reilly ended up with 5-34, Mehul Ahir 2-10 and Symonds-Mayes 2-34.

Batting was difficult on a very dry, hard-scoring wicket and Bangor had their problems in reply, but they got to 118-6 in 38.2 to seal a 12-3 victory.

The hosts were indebted to Evans for a very solid 33, while four other double-figure contributions helped the target be reached.

Gresford’s very impressive Wales NC North bowler Chris Ellwood pocketed 4-26.

Northop (13) 196-5 Menai Bridge (2) 195-7

Marlon Barclay took 3-23 and Charlie Collins 3-39 for the Flintshire hosts.

Northop’s response was totally dominated by Evans, but there was also a useful 33 from Barclay in the final effort of 196-5, sealing a 13-2 verdict.

Gethin Roberts bowled smartly for the islanders, taking 2-22 off eight.

St Asaph (11) 190-8 Llandudno (4) 189-7

Nathanael Scott scored a match-turning 97 as St Asaph were made to work very hard for their win over a battling Llandudno at Elwy Park Grove.

Tudno called the coin correctly and opted to bat, chalking up 189-7 off 50 overs, Alexander Corver 51, Elliott Hughes 40 and Oliver Hughes 37 not out.

For Saints, Ajaypal Singh scooped 3-23, Dan Evans 2-34 and Ryan Dunning 2-37.

Wales NC North bowler Jack Rimmington continued his good form with 4-39 for the away side, Tom Thornton grabbing 2-27.

Denbigh (8) 217-5 Mochdre (8) 217-8

Tied games are rare in cricket, but one of these unusual specimens took place at Ystrad Road on Saturday.

Visitors Mochdre won the toss and elected to bat, notching up 217-8 off their 50 overs.

Matty Humphreys led the way with 68, while Alex Davies posted 30, Sam Lewis picking up 2-30 for Denbigh.

Humphreys took a fine 2-29 off 10 for the visitors, the points ending up shared 8-8.

Halkyn (3) 211-8 Pontblyddyn (12) 214-7

What a shot – both by the batsman and the photographer. Lensman Gareth Prestidge perfectly captures the moment as Halkyn’s Nathan Roett hooks the ball away hard.

Chris Myles and James Hughes put together a match-winning eighth-wicket partnership to see Pontblyddyn to victory at Pant Newydd.

Halkyn were put into bat and scored a decent 211-8 off 50 overs, Nathan Roett leading the charge with 60, skipper Ben Roberts adding 31, while for the visitors, Renacko Belgrave scooped 2-28, Ryan White 2-39 and Ioan Jones 2-40.
