Cymru North earmarked for uneven 17 team membership this season

Seventeen teams will compete in the Cymru North League in 2023-24, the FAW have confirmed.

Llanidloes Town, who feared they may be shifted to Cymru South, keep their place in the North.

Also in Cymru North for this season, Airbus UK Broughton and Flint Town United come down from the JD Cymru Premier, Denbigh Town and Bangor 1876 rise up from Ardal North West, while Caersws are promoted from Ardal North East.

Departing the Cymru North are Colwyn Bay, promoted to the Cymru Premier, and relegated Holyhead Hotspur, Penrhyncoch and Conwy Borough.

There is concern over Cefn Druids being able to start the season in the Cymru North, but nothing has been confirmed and they are included for now.

It is also unclear as to whether Bangor 1876 will be able to use Nantporth Stadium – which fits the licence criteria essential for tier 2 – for their base this season. More news expected on that soon.

So 17 teams for now…..but things can quickly change in Welsh football.

The FAW National Leagues Board today (6 June) confirmed the composition of the JD Cymru Leagues for the 2023/24 season.

JD Cymru Premier (12): Aberystwyth Town, Bala Town, Barry Town United, Caernarfon Town, Cardiff Met University, Colwyn Bay, Connah’s Quay Nomads, Haverfordwest County, Newtown, Penybont, Pontypridd United, The New Saints

JD Cymru North (17): Airbus UK Broughton, Bangor 1876, Buckley Town, Caersws, Cefn Druids, Chirk AAA, Denbigh Town, Flint Town United, Gresford Athletic, Guilsfield, Holywell Town, Llandudno, Llanidloes Town, Mold Alexandra, Porthmadog, Prestatyn Town, Ruthin Town

JD Cymru South (16): Abergavenny Town, Abertillery Bluebirds, Afan Lido, Ammanford, Baglan Dragons, Briton Ferry Llansawel, Caerau Ely, Cambrian & Clydach Vale BGC, Carmarthen Town, Cwmbran Celtic, Goytre United, Llanelli Town, Llantwit Major, Goytre United, Taffs Well, Trefelin BGC
