NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Northop (15) 382-4 Llandudno (0) 102-10

Marlon Barclay’s remarkable 243 not out for Northop was just five runs short of matching the North Wales Cricket League’s all-time individual score record, it is believed.

The West Indian, whose highest score in his previous three innings for the Flintshire side was 22, went run crazy at Flint Road, his double ton coming off 152 balls and including 32 fours and 10 sixes, with a strike rate of 159.87.

Barclay’s knock totally dominated a mammoth total of 382-4 off 50 overs, the hosts having won the toss and decided to bat.

However, he did get good support from Andy Poynton (73 no) in an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 225.

The league’s highest individual score is believed to be the 248 Johannes Van Aswagen scored for Mold at Pwllheli in a Premier Division match on May 3, 2014.

South African Van Aswagen struck 25 fours and 12 sixes in his effort off 156 deliveries, with a strike rate of 158.97.

The all-rounder spent two seasons at Mold, hitting 600 runs in 2013 and 1,091 the year after.

Llandudno’s attack suffered some almighty punishment on Saturday, but amidst the carnage Oliver Hughes emerged relatively unscathed with 2-41 from 10 overs.

Tudno were bowled out for just 102 in reply, Ashraf Nawab picking up 3-18 off 10 and Andy Poynton 3-22.

Bangor (15) 223-6 Halkyn (0) 117-10

Opener Owen Reilly hit a season’s best 89 as Bangor built up a winning total of 223-6 off 50 overs at Ty Newydd.

Sion Evans added 34 for the home side, while for Halkyn, Alex North notched 3-30.

Franco Kasner then snapped up 4-43 and Jonny Wells 2-23 as the visitors nosedived to 117 all out, Jamie Griffiths 30.

Denbigh (2) 221-6 Brymbo (13) 258-5

Classy batting all-round was the main feature of this match, but leaders Brymbo scored the most runs to claim the bulk of the points at Ystrad Road.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Steelmen amassed 258-5 off 50 overs, Christopher Taylor best with 68, Mohamed Nilam Jayman adding 50 and Jason Underwood 41.

Taylor put on 75 for the opening wicket with James Claybrook (28) and then 74 for the second alongside Jayman.

Denbigh’s most successful bowler was spin king Harrison Jones with 3-42.

Jones top-scored with 72 and the ever-improving Archie Sussex hit 66 as Denbigh finished on 221-6 in reply, the most productive pair concocting a 105 stand for the third wicket.

Opener Gerallt Lyall also impressed with 36, while for the visitors, Jayman collected 2-35 and Taylor 2-38.

Menai Bridge (13) 318-9 Gresford (2) 259-10

Will Blair led the spree with 63 in Menai Bridge’s all-round outstanding batting effort during Saturday’s win at Tyn-y-Caeau.

The champions opted for first knock and piled up 318-9 in 50 overs, with all the top order making fine contributions.

Blair was the only half-century maker, but Robert Smith and Robbie Jones notched 47 apiece, Dion Holden scored 44 and fellow opener Jack Gower 38.

Gower and Holden put on 65, Holden and Smith added 68, Blair and Chris Moore (21) formed a stand of 58 before Blair and Jones made 66 between them.

Owain Walker pocketed 2-29 for the Colliers.

Gresford were bowled out for 259 despite fine contributions from Daniel Williams (69), skipper Matthew Thompson (56), Chris Ellwood (55) and Joshua Knowles (33).

For the Bridge, Iwan Moore pocketed 3-39 and Holden 2-49.

Pontblyddyn (2) 80-10 Mold (13) 83-4

John Crane produced a remarkable bowling spell for Mold

By contrast to the other Premier games, there was a distinct lack of runs at Alder Meadow.

John Crane produced the bowling display of the day, collecting 5-7 off 10 overs as Pont were rolled over for just 80 after deciding to bat.

Richard Deniz scooped 2-6 and Munowar Samsodien 2-31 for the wicked-hungry visitors.

Mold got to 83-4 in just 17.1 overs, Ewan Hill 34, Ioan Jones 2-17 for the losing side.

St Asaph (13) 217-10 Mochdre (2) 153-10

Nathanael Scott topped the batting with 87 in a formidable Saints total at Elwy Park Grove.

The hosts were bowled out for 217 in 50 overs, Ajaypal Singh next best with 31 and opener Mathew Ryan 29, Stewart Williams grabbing 4-33 and Brad Kielow 2-34 for the visitors.

Three Mochdre batsmen were run out as the away side slumped to 153 all out, Wales NC North star Matty Humphreys hitting 46 and Australian Kielow 36.

Gareth Goodson claimed 2-34 and Dan Evans 2-36 for Saints, who took the points 13-2.
