Celebrating an amazing season for CPD Merched Bangor – Bangor Women’s FC!

What a season 2022-23 proved to be for CPD Merched Bangor – Bangor Women’s FC!

A 100 per cent record at home, undefeated all season in the North Wales League and crowned worthy champions.

A campaign to be proud of for management team Aron Griffith, Lefty Wright and Lois Regan.

It was not just the unbeaten record of played 22, won 20, drawn 2 that was so impressive, it was the hefty number of goals they scored and the so few they conceded.

For all you Becca Elliott fans, here’s a great poster idea. Picture: KEVIN PRYDDERCH

Bangor hit 120 league goals, including a 15-0 and a 14-0, and let in a miserly eight – massive credit to main keeper Becca Elliott and her defence, but also the whole side.

Only two teams scored more than once against them in the league – Llangefni Town on the opening weekend and NFA.

The goals were already flowing before the squad was strengthened by the addition of Australian student Stevie Donougher in October.

The Wonder from Down Under banged in 15 goals in her first five games and 26 in her opening 11 outings.

She added just one more in her remaining six fixtures to finish on 27 goals in 17 matches, making her top-scorer for the team and second highest for the whole league.

When Donougher did not find the net, plenty of others were there to oblige, with teenage stars Mia Roberts and Ella Jones, the experienced Awel Ellis, veteran defender turned attacker Jenna Allsup and midfield general Danielle Barnfield all reaching double figures.

Bangor received tough tests near the end of the season against a now strengthened Pwllheli and a determined Amlwch, who held them 0-0 at Lon Bach for the second year running.

But the all-blues maintained that unbeaten record and entertained brilliantly along the way, while all along developing some of the best young talent North Wales can offer.

Now promotion to the tier 2 Genero Adran North League awaits and what an exciting prospect having Bangor facing the teams at that higher level will be.
