Trearddur Bay moved six points clear at the top of the table after securing a gritty 2-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Bethesda Athletic on an afternoon where torrential rain and high winds threatened to steal the headlines.
With the vast majority of the weekend’s fixture list wiped out by the elements, the league leaders seized the opportunity to extend their advantage at the top of the table with a narrow win at Treborth..
The breakthrough arrived in the 19th minute. Bay unlocked the visitors’ stubborn defence when Ashley Ainsworth found the back of the net to open the scoring, assisted by TC Lennon.
Bethesda had barely recovered from the restart when the hosts struck again. In the 22nd minute, the division’s standout marksman took centre stage, Callum Parry doubling the advantage to net his 24th goal of the season, continuing an incredible run of form and putting Bay firmly in the driving seat.
To their credit, Bethesda refused to fold, and clawed their way back into the contest in the 36th minute when Corey Lundstram found a way through to halve the deficit before the interval.
The second half turned into a true battle against the conditions. Athletic pushed hard for an equaliser, but Bay’s disciplined defending stood resilient to ensure all three points remained at home.
Nathan Mendoza’a 90th minute equaliser earned a commendable draw for Mynydd Isa which halted a run of six successive defeats.
NFA remain in seventh, while Isa rise to 13th.
Harrison Bellis opened the scoring for the hosts on 32 minutes from a Thomas Hughes assist for his eighth goal of the season.
Seventeen-year-old Fraser Dodd made it 1-1 on 67 minutes, but Tyler Joyce restored the NFA lead after 78.
Mynydd never gave up and in the final stages Steve Chiocchi supplied the assist for Mendoza to make it 2-2 with his ninth goal this term.
