Musician Tesni Hughes always ends on the right note – and the same was true of her football today!
The 19-year-old striker scored a last-gasp winner for Amlwch in one of the games of the season at runners-up chasing NFA.
Not only that, the goal completed another hat-trick for Hughes, who is now on 21 league goals for the campaign – 22 in all competitions.
What a game it was at Rhyl! Amlwch made it 10 games unbeaten in the NWWFL, eight of them wins – 26 points out of a possible last 30.
Amlwch came out fighting, controlling the ball and playing some lovely football.
Emma Roberts made the first break, beating three players and slotting the ball through to Ellie Jones who saw it past the keeper for her 15th goal of the season with 11 minutes gone.
Staying strong throughout the half, the visitors made it 2-0 on 25 minutes when Casey Evans passed through to Leah Jones, who made a break down the wing and crossed the ball to Tesni Hughes, who fired home.
NFA were unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside just before the end of the half.
The home side produced a powerful start to the second half and on 61 minutes the promising Kelci Morris halved the arrears by scoring from a Sade Benjamin assist.
Town rallied and Jo Bramwell received the ball in the middle, played it through to Tesni Hughes, and she lobbed stand-in keeper Amy Webster for 3-1.
Now the drama really began.
In the 86th minute Megan Pursell set up Zoe Stopford to make it 3-2.
Then in the third minute of added time, Ruby McGilloway assisted and Webster – now outfield – scored.
So many late thrills with NFA this season, sometimes going for them, others against them. This time it was to be the latter.
Amlwch made sure their first half efforts were not in vain. With one final push Ellie Jones and Tesni Hughes made a break for it and Tesni slotted the ball past the keeper to win it in the final minute of overtime.
What an end to a first season in the North Wales League for Flint!
Star performer Rosie Hughes fittingly delivered a hat-trick for the Silkwomen, who pulled further clear of the bottom three.
Kaelyn Williams netted twice, Erin Heathcote, Jennifer Haynes and Daisy Hughes one apiece.
Sadie Richards and Olivia Sutcliffe replied for Llanfairfechan.
A sixth win in a row moved Pwllheli ever closer to clinching runners-up spot.
Sioned Jones put the hosts in front with a second-minute penalty, but Llangefni typically battled back and levelled through top-scorer Jen Cox with 14 on the clock.
Hayley Rees-Williams made it 2-1 before a second Sioned Jones penalty made it 3-1 after 35 minutes.
The second half was a tough battle and Cefni never gave up trying to reduce the deficit.
The Anglesey side scored again through Cox’s 26th goal of a tremendous season, but there was to be no equaliser for Dan Gregg’s side.
Denbigh are assured of at least sixth-place after a comfortable home victory over Caernarfon.
Amber Hellon, Elen James Owen, Paige Morris, Lois Roberts and substitute Charlotte Morris netted a goal apiece for the home side, who led 3-0 at half time.
