North Wales Women’s football League previews: October 13, 2019

Mountain Rangers will look to make it five straight wins in Division Two on Sunday

Women’s football previews – Sunday, October 13

North Wales Women’s League (1 pm)

Division One

Northop Hall v Llanfair United

Llanfair were made to work hard for their 2-1 victory at Rhyl last weekend, but they managed to scrap out the desired result.

Northop Hall have shown some promise this season and with home advantage will be out to cause an upset.

Nonetheless, Llanfair have a 100% record so far with three straight wins and must be classed as favourites to make it four out of four.

Corwen v Rhyl

Match postponed – waterlogged pitch

Division Two

Amlwch Town v Caernarfon Town

Unbeaten Amlwch will have been slightly disappointed only to draw 3-3 with Connah’s Quay Nomads last Sunday, but they were two-down at one stage and fought back to lead, only to concede a late leveller.

It should be a less demanding assignment for the Anglesey side against next-to-bottom Caernarfon, who nonetheless will have been boosted by their first win of the season versus Holywell last week.

Amlwch can produce goals throughout the team and will be very hard to contain at Lon Bach.

Fourth entertains third as unbeaten Nomads take on a Pwllheli team which has won two of their first three games.

It’s a long journey for the Llyn ladies to Deeside, though, and much may depend on the strength of squad they have available to travel.

The Quay are unbeaten and did really well to take a draw from their trip to Amlwch last weekend.

Holywell Town v Llanberis

After winning their opener against Caernarfon, Llanberis were brought back down to earth in a heavy loss at Mountain Rangers.

Should be a good game when the Darans visit Holywell, who have yet to pick up a point but did really well last week to come back from 3-0 behind to Caernarfon to only lose 3-2 in the end.

NFA v Mountain Rangers

A massive congratulations to Mountain Rangers player Jessica Lane in winning the North Wales Coast FA Young Volunteer of the Year as part of the FAW/McDonald’s Grassroots Football Award. Jessica was able to enrol on the FAW football coaching courses due to the aid of the Gwynedd Youth Volunteering Grant that was awarded to Caernarfon Town FC in the Community from Mantell Gwynedd.

Rangers have taken Division Two by storm so far – played 3 won 3, goals scored 28 and goals conceded just 4.

Irfon Hughes’ side could be in for a good test at NFA, though, the Rhyl based team having won one and lost two so far and possessing some experienced forwards and midfielders as well as developing players on an improvement curve.

NFA lost just 4-3 at Pwllheli last week and triumphed 7-1 at Caernarfon seven days before, so confidence is on the rise.

Mountain Rangers, a bit like Amlwch, have numerous players who can find the net and they will start favourites on Sunday.
