Welsh Cup Cricket: Colwyn Bay thrash Llandudno, Brymbo cruise past Northop Hall

REPORTS FROM WELSH CUP MATCHES PLAYED SUNDAY, MAY 14

North Zone 1

Brymbo 124-0 Northop Hall 123-10

Connor Davies claimed an outstanding 5-19, Joseph Norman 3-23 and Jack Whitley 2-27 as Brymbo bowled out Northop Hall for just 123 in 31.1 overs.

Top-scorer for the Hall, who won the toss and chose to bat, was skipper Carwyn Johnson with 31.

In reply, Brymbo needed just 12.1 overs to make 124-0!

Openers James Claybrook and Christopher Taylor both ended on 55 not out.

Buckley 79-10 Connah’s Quay 82-2

Alex Storey made a battling 36, but Buckley were rolled over for just 79 in 17.1 overs.

For visitors Connah’s Quay, Lee Davies snapped up 4-25, Darren Leach 3-26 and Mali Auty 2-24.

Quay eased to 82-2 in 14.5, Joshua Clarke 30, Ollie Fellows with 2-30 for the home team, who lost by eight wickets.

Newtown 0-0 Gresford 0-0 (win on walk-over)

Newtown CC conceded.

Colwyn Bay 102-0 Llandudno 101-10

Matt Russell collected a magnificent 6-35 as Colwyn Bay easily overcame neighbours Llandudno at Penrhyn Avenue.

Buoyed by a first league win of the season the day before, Bay inserted the opposition and skittled them out for just 101 in 32.3, Patrick Glover backing up Russell with 2-15.

Opener Sam Rimmington did best for Tudno with 31.

Colwyn coasted to 102-0 in 13.5 overs, whirlwind Will Evans smashing 75 not out off 49 balls with 13 fours and a six, Evan Withe 20 no.

Denbigh 0-0 (won on walk-over) Bala 0-0

Bala conceded.

Halkyn 130-8 Northop 113-7 (revised target 113)

Hosts Halkyn posted a modest 130-8 off 40 overs, Jamie Griffiths topping the chart on 31, a very popular highest score on the day.

Matthew Mullarkey pocketed 3-17 off eight for Northop and Joe Griffiths 2-30.

In reply, due to the weather Northop faced a revised target for 113 and got there for seven wickets down in 29.1, Mark Poynton 23, Jamie Griffiths 4-19 for the hosts.

Northop were declared winners by three wickets.

Mochdre 162-10 Prestatyn 70-6

Skipper Sam Davies made 60 as North Wales League Premier hosts Mochdre set a total of 162 all out from 39.1 overs.

Daniel Phillips added 37 for the home side, sharing in a crucial stand of 91 for the seventh wicket with his captain. At one stage Mochdre were 58-6.

Adam Tidswell picked up 3-21 and Benjamin Hughes 3-29 for the visitors.

Prestatyn were limited to 70-6 off 21 overs in response before the weather intervened, Andrew Taylor 26, Owen Davies 3-27 and Matthew Humphreys 2-17 for the hosts. Mochdre won by 41 runs on the DLS method.
