Saints celebrated what they hope will be the first leg of a treble when they lifted the Cookson Cup at Central Park, Denbigh, last night.

It was quite a straightforward task for Asaph as they overcame Prestatyn Sports 5-0 in the final, having established a four-goal lead at half time.

The Roe Plas club are also strong favourites to lift the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division title and have a NWCFA Intermediate Cup Final to come.

Facing a very capable but out-of-form Sports side at Denbigh Town’s ground, Saints got off to a flyer when Ryan Potts fired them ahead in the eighth minute with his 33rd goal of the season.

James Williams, another who certainly knows where the goal is, scored his 15th of the campaign to make it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

And Josh Brown provided the assist to enable Ray Knight to add a third with 35 on the clock.

Brown himself notched number four after 40, Simon Fawcett setting him up. It was number 12 of the season for Brown.

With the contest all but over at the break, the second half comprised many substitutions and no more goals until the fifth minute of added time, when Liam Grayson made it 5-0.

So one down, two to go for St Asaph, who can put one hand firmly on the title if they see off Prestatyn Sports at home this Saturday in a league match.
