An eight-goal cracker and a tremendous advert for women’s football took place at Lon Bach.
Very little separates these two in the North Wales Women’s League top six and there was nothing between them at the end of 90 minutes on Sunday.
Denbigh got off to a flyer, goals from Elen Jones and Roslyn Fryer putting them two-up within the first eight minutes.
This jolted Amlwch into action and within five minutes the Anglesey hosts found themselves level.
Top scorer Tesni Hughes started the comeback with a typical tidy finish, followed by Cerys Gadd’s cross-come-shot looping over the Denbigh keeper to level things up.
Amlwch continued to dominate and this eventually paid off when after some great work down the left by Casey Evans, the ball was crossed by Emily Ridges to Ellie Jones who controlled, turned nicely and applied the finish on 39 minutes.
Further pressure from Amlwch would have extended their lead if it was not for some great saves by Denbigh keeper Sophie Bancroft leading up to half time.
Seventeen minutes into the second half it was Denbigh’s turn for a speculative delivery from Eluned Evans to float into the far corner for 3-3.
Five minutes later, Denbigh pressure forced a penalty and they once again took the lead, Elen Jones making it a personal double.
A response was needed from Amlwch and it duly arrived on 78.
Emma Roberts won the ball in midfield and sent Ellie Jones away. Her shot was blocked but Tesni Hughes was on hand as ever to slot home her second. Parity restored.
Further chances at both ends but points shared in a match which provided great entertainment
