Seven heaven as Flint Town United bounce back to form in clinical style

Hat-trick star Kelsey Davies (12) scores for Flint. All Pictures: GEOFF QUINN – huge thanks

GENERO ADRAN NORTH – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1

Flint Town United 7 (K Davies 12, 19, 71, Hobbs 61 pen, 63, Davies OG 50, L Williams 82)
CPDM Y Felinheli 2 (Edwards 21, A Jones 31)

Kelsey Davies produced her finest performance in a Flint shirt yet as her Sunday hat-trick made it eight goals in five games for the winger since joining the Silkwomen this season.
Stunned by a 5-1 home defeat to Llanfair seven days earlier, Becca Eagles’ side bounced back in style by thrashing a Felinheli outfit which were level at 2-2 come the interval.
The home side took a 12th minute lead. The opening goal stemmed from a throw-in by right back Ruby McGilloway, who found Shannon Hobbs and she flicked the ball over an opposition head into Davies’ feet.
Davies then switched play out to left back Chloe Hughes, who linked up with Bella Riley. The lively Riley drove forward with real intent before threading a through ball into Davies’ path. Showing composure in front of goal, Davies slotted the ball past keeper Sioned Williams.
Goal number two came from player-manager Eagles regaining possession following an aerial duel won from the opposition throw-in. The powerful header travelled over the Felin back line, with Davies quickest to react to the loose ball in behind before calmly placing her finish across the goalkeeper into the far corner.

Felin were far from discouraged and in the 21st minute pulled one back to make it 2-1 following a high throw-in into Flint’s defensive half.
Shona Roberts initially dealt with the delivery, clearing the ball away, but it fell into the path of Felin’s Jenna Allsup, who headed it back into the danger area and through Flint’s back line.
The ball dropped at Becky Bott’s feet, but under intense pressure from Felin forward Llywela Edwards, she was dispossessed. Edwards capitalised on the turnover and got a shot away to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
And after 31 minutes, it was two-each.
Felin looked to exploit the space in behind following a free kick, as Flint’s back line stepped forward to follow the initial delivery. A ball played over the top caught the defensive line high, allowing Angharad Jones to time her run in behind and break through on goal.
With Bott advancing to narrow the angle, young striker Jones was nonetheless able to find the net.

HALF-TIME: 2-2

Five minutes into the second half, the Silkwomen were back in front.
McGilloway’s long throw travelled beyond two Felin players and found Davies, who looked to pick out Riley at the back post. However, the cross was intercepted by Felin defender Rubie Davies, with an unfortunate deflection sending the ball into her own net.
Just past the hour, the hosts went 4-2 up.
Some great link up play between Chloe Hughes, Davies and Riley down the left created the opportunity. Riley drove positively into the penalty area before being brought down by Davies, resulting in a penalty being awarded.
Hobbs stepped up to take responsibility from the spot. Although the goalkeeper guessed the right way, Hobbs’ powerful and well placed strike into the bottom corner was too strong.
Forward Hobbs struck again just two minutes later. Sub Laura Williams was brought down on the left hand side of the Felin box, winning a free kick in a dangerous position.
Hobbs sent a fantastic long range effort goalwards. Although the keeper managed to get a hand to the ball, the power and height of Hobbs‘ strike proved too much to keep it out.

The half-dozen marked Davies’ hat-trick on 71 minutes,
The move started from a goal kick, played out to Ruby Hastings, who moved the ball into Grace Bamber’s feet. Flint worked possession forward before Poppy Smith produced an excellent through ball, splitting the Felin defence and releasing Davies in behind.
Felin keeper Williams was quick off her line to get a touch on the ball, but Davies showed great awareness and quick reactions to capitalise on the loose ball. With two Felin defenders still between her and the goal, Davies cleverly lifted her finish over them and into the net.

Another excellent attacking move involving Smith and Davies created Flint’s seventh goal. Smith knocked the ball out towards the right hand side, where Davies’ pace proved too much for the Felin defender as she drove forward and delivered across the six yard box.
The ball travelled right through the danger area, with Daisy Hughes following the attack and setting it back to Smith.
She crossed the ball back into the box finding Davies, who squared the ball into Williams‘ path, leaving her with the space to finish for her eighth goal this season.
Seven heaven for Flint, who sit third in Adran North at this early stage of the campaign.
