Nathan Brown struck twice to make it 26 goals this season for a Denbigh side which celebrated its 17th win on the bounce in all competitions.

Unlike has been the case in most of their recent games, Town did not run away with this one and in difficult conditions at Central Park were glad to secure the points which keep them third in Ardal North West.

Denbigh took a fourth-minute lead when good link-up play between Jacob Walker and Craig Pritchard set up Brown to fire in the opener from 15 yards.

Brown added a second with 17 minutes on the clock, lobbing keeper Joe O’Connor from 20 yards.

From here, the usual Town goals deluge did not materialise. Five minutes into the second half, Brown went close to a hat-trick when his curling attempt clipped the crossbar.

Next-to-bottom Hawarden were back in the game on 70 minutes when James Ratcliffe scored from the penalty spot.

Walker thought he has made it 3-1 in the 86th minute, but was ruled offside.

Nonetheless, a 12th successive league victory for Dewi Llion Jones’ men.

First-half goals from Liam Morris and Corrig McGonigle booked the victory which edged 1876 to within three points of leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 with a game in hand and better goal difference of +7.

Despite wet and windy conditions, Y Felinheli and Bangor managed to produce an entertaining game at Cae Seilo.

The hosts were first to threaten when Gruff John’s powerful low shot was parried by Carl Jones before the Felinheli player fired the rebound over the bar.

Bangor grew into the game and Morris forced goalkeeper Guto Hughes into a sharp save.

In the 22nd minute, Bangor took the lead. A long throw-in from Kian Owen was flicked on by Les Davies and turned in from close range by Morris.

A spell of away pressure followed with Gethin Thomas shooting over from the edge of the box and McGonigle having a goal disallowed for offside. Morris also saw a low shot well parried by Hughes.

On 34 minutes, 1876 doubled their advantage when McGonigle slid in to turn home a cross from Dylan Williams.

That was McGonigle’s 51st goal of the campaign and he went close to adding another but his shot on the turn was well saved.

On the stroke of half-time, McGonigle hit the post from 35 yards when he chipped the ball over home keeper Hughes.

Half-Time: 0-2

Shortly after the break, the hosts almost reduced the deficit. Tomos Davies crossed from the right and Iwan Edwards fired in a powerful shot that Carl Jones did well to parry.

Chances were few and far between after that until the latter stages.

McGonigle’s free-kick from a tight angle was saved, and he blasted just over after being picked out by a pin-point cross from Davies.

Y Felinheli’s Iwan Edwards struck a shot from 20 yards that was caught by Carl Jones despite a deflection on the way through.

LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH EAST

Cefn Albion 2 Penycae 2

Albion missed a chance to cut the gap on leaders Caersws to four points when they could only draw at home to Penycae.

Dion Gibbins and a Ryan Kehoe penalty made up the Cefn tally, Ben Buley and a Joshua Sumner own goal earning a point for the visitors.

Rhos Aelwyd 3 Llangollen Town 1

Tom Smith (2) and a Scott Reeves penalty banked three points for Rhos.

Benjamin Wilson replied for Llangollen in the 74th minute when his team were 2-0 down.

Welshpool Town 2 Caersws 2

Glynn Coney’s 87th minute spot-kick rescued a point for leaders Caersws, who surprisingly fluffed an opportunity to edge further ahead in top spot at Maesydre.

Joshua Lenc handed Welshpool a 24th minute lead, Peter Rees levelled midway through the second half, but a goal on 84 from Ryan Knott looked to have won it for the Lilywhites.

However, Coney saved the day for the Bluebirds with that late penalty.

Ruabon Rovers 14 Holywell United 3

Ruabon’s six-goal star Conner Kendrick

A ruthless romp from Ruabon who are now 12 points behind leaders Caerwys but with five games in hand.

Conner Kendrick hit a double hat-trick, Kyle Evans a pair and there was one each for Jimmy Jones, Andrew Swarbrick, Leighton Kendrick, Josh Hughes, Mark Jones and Dan Kebell.

Poor Holywell United did manage three replies via Joe Jones, Tom Chamberlain and a Dave Jackson own goal, but they will have many better nights than this.
