Menai Bridge, Gwalchmai, Glantraeth and Talysarn Celts triumph in cup quarter-finals

Four goals in the first 20 minutes – two for each side – were not added to until the closing stages when Menai Bridge bagged a late winner.

Tigers went ahead after just five minutes; a long ball upfield from Ryan Evans was flicked on by Kelvin Frazer into the path of Callum Davidson, who slotted past Dion Owen with a first-time finish.

The lead lasted just a minute before Kevin Lloyd equalised. The Llanrug number 9 doubled his tally in the 12th minute when Jonathan Sadler’s strike hit the bar and fell straight to Lloyd for a simple tap-in.

A frantic start to the cup tie culminated in a fourth goal after just 19 minutes, Tom Parry levelling for the visitors with a dipping strike from outside the area.

Both sides had numerous chances to regain the lead but for poor finishing.

The game seemed destined for extra time until Tigers grabbed a late winner. Davidson’s low cross found Callum Graves to side-foot home from six yards in the 85th minute.

Two extra time goals put Gwalchmai through at Cae Cynlas.

Chris Bennett nudged the visitors ahead on 19 minutes, but Iolo Jones restored parity for Berffro after 74.

An added half-hour was needed and Marc Evans’ penalty a minute from the end of the first period edged Gwalch back in front.

Victory was sealed when Gethin Jones made it 3-1 in the 118th minute.

Luke Gardiner’s hat-trick guided Glantraeth into the next round at Tan Parc.

Darren Lewthwaite struck first on five minutes for the visitors before the opening scorer provided two assists for Gardiner to register a double after nine and 26.

Gardiner completed his treble on 51 for 4-0, and while Jordan Taylor and Lewis Connor hit back for Medd, Keenan Latham’s 84th minute net-finder clinched it for the Bodorgan boys.

Talysarn conceded early at Maes-y-Parc, but fought back to celebrate victory in this Cwpan Snowdonia Fire and Security Cup tie.

Gwion Davies handed Penrhyn the lead after just two minutes, but Jack Usher made it one-apiece on the quarter-hour.

Midway through the second half, Glyn Hughes-Thomas knocked in the decider for Celts.
