NORTH WALES COAST WEST LEAGUE REPORTS MARCH 11

PREMIER DIVISION

CPD Pwllheli 1 Menai Bridge Tigers 1

Bridge marksman Callum Graves

Second took on fourth at Recreation Road and the points were shared in a closely-fought battle in miserable conditions.

Pwllheli’s coastal location meant they escaped the snow, but the rain did not abate.

Callum Davidson had an early chance for Menai Bridge, a diagonal pass from Jamie Ryan Jones putting the forward one-on-one with Aaron Smith.

The Pwllheli goalkeeper made a good save but the ball fell to Callum Graves, who fired wide from a tight angle.

Graves had the ball in the back of the net after 6 minutes, however he had drifted into an offside position by the time Robbie Jones’ free-kick had taken a touch off Kelvin Frazer.

The same combination gave Tigers the lead after 19 minutes. Another free-kick from Jones was aimed at Frazer, who made a nuisance of himself in the area to flick the ball into danger, with Graves first to react and blast home from 10 yards.

Graves “scored” again with the last kick of the first half. His miss-hit shot was headed back across the goal by Harry Jones for Graves to poke into the roof of the net, however the goal was ruled out as Jones was offside.

Pwllheli came flying out the blocks in the second half, putting the Menai Bridge defence under sustained pressure. The home side grabbed a deserved equaliser on 55 minutes, Louis McFarlane converting from close range.

The second half had a turning point in the 70th minute when Pwllheli went down to 10 men. A firm challenge by Daniel Roberts on young substitute George Roberts could have seen the Pwllheli midfielder given a caution, however when confronted by Graves in the aftermath Roberts earned himself a red card with an attempted headbutt.

Both sides pushed in search of a winner, however the torrential weather made it difficult to play football and the match finished with a goal apiece. A draw could be considered a fair result and one that both teams may have been content with.

Amlwch Town 1 CPD Llanberis 4

Three points deservedly earned by Llanberis with Cal Macdonald scoring for them twice in the first half before Thomas Collins added a third close to the break.

Tomos Owen notched a fourth for the Darans on 52 and Amlwch did not respond until the 72nd minute when Dan Jones pulled one back.

CPD Pentraeth 2 CPD Penrhyndeudraeth 2

Deio Hughes salvaged a point for Penrhyndeudraeth with a 93rd minute equaliser at Bryniau Field.

Rhys Williams struck first for the visitors on nine minutes, but Kian Abbott and Cian Taylor replied to give Pentraeth an interval lead.

No further goals until Hughes’ late leveller and Penrhyn ended with 10 men after Cedri Jones was shown a 94th minute red card.

Talysarn Celts 4 Glantraeth 0

Talysarn proved they are still ones to fear in the title race as they eventually swept aside Glantraeth at Gloddfa Glai.

Luke Baum set the ball rolling with his 13th league goal this term in the 13th minute and it stayed 1-0 until the closing quarter hour.

A Jac Pearce Jones penalty made it two on 76, then Glyn Hughes-Thomas and Aled Jones supplied further goals late on.

DIVISION ONE

Trearddur Bay 5 Caergybi 1

Unbeaten since the start of the season – an 18-match run – Trearddur Bay are now eight points clear at the summit after Saturday’s derby whipping of Caergybi.

Conditions underfoot were tough after heavy showers throughout the morning and the game started off in a scrappy manner with both sides guilty of over playing at times in the opening stages.

However, the sixth minute brought the first goal of the game.

A lobbed forward ball by left-back Mike Edwards was flicked on well by Melvin Mcginness into the path of striker Kaine Bentley all alone in the box. The young striker took one touch and unleashed a low strike into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later the visitors were left with a mountain to climb as Bay doubled their lead through Asa Thomas.

Sloppy play at the back by Cybi presented a chance to Thomas around 25 yards out and he punished them with a driven first-time shot.

Five minutes before the break the home side added a third. Edwards went on a trademark run, beating 5 players in the process before his blocked shot at the edge of the box fell to striker Asa Thomas who converted first time from seven yards.

It was his 43rd goal of the season in the eighth game in succession he has found the net.

The knack of right place and right time also applies to his striker partner Mel Mcginness and he proved it again two minutes before the half with the fourth goal of the game courtesy of his brother Dan Mcginness’ assist.

After the half the visitors regrouped and it was they that struck first. A long ball forward and a very rare lapse in concentration at the Bay back saw Louis Chapman through on goal. He finished well for goal number 23 this season.

The final goal came on 66 minutes. A beautiful looped pass by Melvin Mcginness found midfielder Tom Scott breaking forward.

The conditions played a part as Scott’s first time shot managed to squirm underneath the Cybi stopper into the goal to make it 5-1.

CPD Cefni 0 Bethesda Rovers 0

The deadlock remained unbroken at Isgraig as Cefni recorded successive 0-0 draws.

CPD Gaerwen 1 CPD Y Fali 3

New Fali sensation Rhys Thomas banged in a hat-trick to secure the visitors maximum points, the goals coming on 31, 40 and 51 minutes.

Alan Mark Owen provided Gaerwen’s response after 47.

Holyhead Town 0 CPD Mountain Rangers 0

Four red cards but no goals at Millbank.

Charlie Diamond (80 minutes) and Matty Rowlands (88) walked for the home side, while Jamie Griffiths (80) and Llion Hughes (80) were dismissed for Rangers.

The visitors had a seemingly perfectly good goal ruled out for offside early in the second half, Stuart Cooke having headed in a Ben Davies free kick at the far post.

Llanfairpwll 1 Llanystumdwy 2

Aaron Jones and Daniel Rhinds bagged the goals which delivered a welcome victory for Llanystumdwy at Maes Eilian.

Jones had missed a penalty before scoring in the 16th minute, while Rhinds struck on 53.

Jay Finter was the Llanfair marksman on 50 minutes.
