NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE REPORTS – FEB 25, 2023

Premier Division

Brymbo 3 Greenfield 3

Brymbo are off the mark!

After 10 previous defeats, the bottom side picked up their first point of the season when they held champions Greenfield at the SSC.

All the goals came in the first half, Alfie Gilmartin (2 – PICTURED ABOVE) and Kai Williams for the Steelmen, Daniel Calvert (2, 1 pen) and Dean Hyland for the visitors.

Brymbo had to play the last 40 minutes with 10 men after George Williams was dismissed for a second yellow, but held on for the draw.

Mynydd Isa Spartans 0 FC Queen’s Park 2

Another great example of playing to the full limits of the half saw the Park sneak a late goal at the end of each to take all three points.

A good first half performance was capped by an Adam Roberts header making it 1-0 on the 45th minute, a delightful ball by Dylan Jones finding the scorer unmarked at the back post.

The Park had dominated most of the half except for a sloppy 10 minute spell where Mynydd Isa hit the crossbar with a great strike from 35 yards.

The second half was a much closer affair with neither team really worrying the other in the cold weather. The Park’s Sean Humphreys and Richie Jones both looked solid in the centre of midfield.

The game finished with a great flick by Sean Price to release Dan Parry, who was able to round the on rushing goalkeeper to secure the three points.

Man of the match was given to Richie Jones for an all-action display but Humphreys was a close second.

Coedpoeth United 0 Connah’s Quay Town 0

Great effort from Coedpoeth to hold second-place Connah’s Quay Town to a rare blank.

New Brighton Villa 2 Lex XI 1

Kieran Jones and Iwan Rogers delivered the goals which clinched the Yellers maximum points, Finley Dyer replying.

Penyffordd Lions 2 Castell Alun Colts 0

Ben Hughes notched a goal in each half to guarantee Penyffordd the spoils.

Championship Division

Acton FC 10 Sychdyn 1

North Wales senior football’s top net-finders Acton made it 100 league goals for the season in just 16 games with a caning of Sychdyn.

Sam Giles (3), Michael Pugh (2), Alistair Gibson (2), Jon Smith, Joe Garner and Lewis Edwards split the home goals, Aaron North having brought Sychdyn level in the early stages.

Bellevue 0 Caerwys 3

Toby Hughes (2, 1 pen) and Ethan Farren did the necessary in front of goal as Caerwys stretched their unbeaten run to 15 matches and remained 10 points clear in top spot.

Gronant 5 Johnstown YFC 2

Daniel Price (2), Gyorgy Szabo, Gary Fazackerley and Matthew Lewis combined to secure Gronant victory, Keneth Davies and Jason Williams replying.

Holywell United 0 Ruabon Rovers 8

Conner Kendrick bagged another hat-trick to boost his season’s goals total to 36.

Michael Jones, Jimmy Jones, Kyle Evans, Ryan Williams and Andrew Swarbrick added one each.

Overton Recreational 7 FC United of Wrexham 0

Harry Massey’s treble did much to ensure Overton romped to a big win over their visitors.

Oliver Nelson, Christopher Bush, Alex Williams and goalkeeper Tom McAndrew produced the rest.

Saltney Ferry 3 Aston Park Rangers 1

Ben Barratt (2) and Dean Disley (pen) saw the Ferry sail to victory after Connor Davies had given Rangers an early lead.

Reserve Division

Caerwys 1 Penyffordd Lions 3

Thomas Potts, Jack Pyke-Jones and Calum Roberts (pen) scored the goals which produced an away win, William Weaver for the hosts.

Castell Alun Colts 5 Greenfield 1

Second-place Castell Alun eased to victory, Teddy Edwards, Kacper Wojciech (pen), Elliott Moore, Jamie Hardy and Sam Moore sharing the goals, Jack Gilmore with a consolation for Greenfield.

Connah’s Quay Town 4 Mynydd Isa Spartans 3

Town edged a seven-goal stormer, Damon Bradley, Gary McConnell, Mark Davies and Sean Williams with the home strikes, Harri Jones, Gethin Skates (pen) and Samuel Genders responding.

Lex XI 7 Coedpoeth United 4

Eleven goals were shared at Stansty Park.

Making up the Lex tally were: Simon Edge (2, 1 pen), Iwan Jones, Darren Lloyd (OG), David Beeching, Ewan Evans and Joe Roberts, while for Coedpoeth, Joe Colley, Jacob Williams and Luke Bonner (2) offered the replies.

Ruthin Town Devevelopment 1 Llay Welfare 3rds 2

Joseph Cooper and Robert Parcesepe’s 93rd minute decider pinched the points for Llay, Oliver Lennon the Ruthin marksman.
