ERYRI CONSULTING NORTH WALES COAST WEST LEAGUE

Premier Division

Bethesda Athletic 0 Menai Bridge Tigers 2

A highly impressive win for Menai Bridge away to the leaders breathed new life into the Premier title race.

Bethesda’s lead at the summit was cut to seven points as they suffered just a second league defeat of the campaign.

Tigers went close to opening the scoring on 11 minutes.

Paul Rowlands found Craig Roberts in the six yard box, the former Bethesda man swivelled to hit an instinctive strike which smacked the inside of the post and the ball bounced across the face of goal to be gratefully smothered by Ceirion Hall.

The majority of the first half was characterised by hopeful shots from distance by both sides, with neither goalkeeper really tested.

The deadlock was broken just after the half-hour mark.

Jamie Ryan Jones’s throw-in was flicked on by Craig Roberts to Callum Graves, who hit a well-struck volley in to the bottom corner.

Bethesda almost levelled on the stroke of half-time, but Dion Lewis kept out a free-kick from Joe Todd which seemed destined for the bottom corner.

Menai had the advantage of the slope in the second half and enjoyed several chances including a Craig Roberts effort from a corner which was cleared off the line by Tomos Eames.

Graves should have doubled his tally with 15 minutes to go. Good work from Callum Davidson allowed the Tigers forward a flashed strike which was saved by the feet of Hall. The ball fell into the path of Graves who skied his attempt from 12 yards.

Bethesda naturally pushed for an equaliser but the Tigers defence remained resolute, with man of the match Johnny Roberts heading away everything in his path.

Bridge were able to kill the game off in the third minute of stoppage time. A long kick downfield from keeper Lewis bounced into the path of Davidson who lifted the ball over Hall for his 13th goal of the season.

CPD Penrhyndeudraeth 0 Gwalchmai 4

Three hat-tricks in as many games – Gwalchmai’s Connor Owen. Picture: DAI SINCLAIR

For a third game in a row young striker Connor Owen registered a hat-trick for Gwalchmai.

The 17-year-old made it 28 goals for the season in 20 matches, having only failed to score in three of those games.

The visitors broke the deadlock at Maes-y-Parc on 31 minutes when a cross into the box found Owen, who showed nifty footwork before shooting into the net.

It should have been two soon after, Marc Evans setting up Owen to score, but the front man was mysteriously ruled offside.

Although leading at the break, Gwalch were not at their best, however they were vastly improved in the second half.

Chris Bennett pulled the strings in midfield along with Tom Kelly, Gwion Thomas and Darren Roberts.

In the 53rd minute a great cross from Bennett enabled Marc Evans to head in number two.

Clinical Connor then added another two goals with deadly finishes.

Several contenders for man of the match, but on this day it went to Marc Evans.

Also encouraging for the visitors was to see four substitutes brought on aged 19 or under – Alfie Dodds, Tomos Hughes, Tommy Lee Evans and Ryan Berry.

A mention, too, for the Gwalchmai travelling supporters who were fantastic throughout.

Amlwch Town 0 CPD Mynydd Llandegai 1

Osian Jones’ 70th minute goal settled the issue in Llandegai’s favour.

Six minutes later, Jones missed a penalty, but that proved immaterial to the outcome.

Llanrug United 1 Glantraeth 3

A fourth straight win for Glantraeth and revenge over a Llanrug side which beat them 3-2 on Anglesey in December.

The visitors took a 39th minute lead when Darren Lewthwaite produced a typically deadly finish after a free kick into the box was knocked on into the striker’s path.

Glantraeth’s second goal on 76 minutes was something special – a fantastic long range free kick from Gethin Davies rocketing home.

Andy Clarke made it three two minutes into added time before Jonathan Sadler grabbed a consolation for the hosts.

CPD Nefyn United 3 CPD Aberffraw 0

Goals from Tomi Evans, Mark Dunn and substitute Ifan Jones banked three points for the Penwaig at Caer Delyn.

CPD Pwllheli 7 CPD Llannerchymedd 1

Steffan Toplis added another three goals to the four he scored the week before as second-place Pwllheli ran riot at the Rec.

The Llyn side cut the gap on table-toppers Bethesda Athletic to seven points with two games in hand.

Carl Jones (2), Sol Kempster and Guto Griffiths provided the rest of the home goals, Jama Zakariye replying for the visitors.

Talysarn Celts 1 CPD Llanberis 2

A great result for Llanberis, who grabbed a late decider at Gloddfa Glai to move up to third.

Ifan Mansoor handed the Darans the lead on the stroke of half time, but Talysarn levelled on 65 through Garem Jones.

Osian Glyn bagged the winner for the away side three minutes into added time.

Division One

Trearddur Bay 6 CPD Mountain Rangers 0

Six-goal Trearddur Bay claimed top spot for the first time this season after Saturday’s demolition of Mountain Rangers at Lon Isallt.

Perhaps the only surprise from taking a first look at the scoreline was that 36-goal leading marksman Asa Thomas’ name did not appear on the goal-sheet. This was perfectly understandable, however, as the 600-plus career goal star did not play.

Thomas was suspended for an accumulation of yellow cards, but this offered an opportunity for others to take their chance.

Young keeper Jamie Griffiths kept Trearddur at bay before the hosts broke the deadlock on 11 minutes. Captain Dan Mcginness found striker Justin Williams who fired in the opener.

More Griffiths heroics followed before Justin Williams who guided a low ball home to double his tally before the interval.

After the break the home team upped the tempo and immediately put on pressure from the start. A pre-worked kick off routine caused confusion and a neat ball forward from playmaker Ry Lees set right back Dan Mcginness free. He whipped a cross first time into the box which was cruelly turned into his own net by Aled Rice.

Five minutes later Melv Mcginness applied a cool finish after finding himself one on one from Casey Gregg’s first touch header.

Young midfielder Coby Doutch added a fifth before the moment of the game.

Melv Mcginness found himself clear once again and instead of firing in for his second of the day he chose to square the ball to 16-year-old striker James Leatherbarrow on his senior debut to make it 6.

Llangoed and District 2 CPD Cefni 1

Up the Puffins!

Although Gwion Williams gave visitors Cefni a 49th minute lead, Llangoed levelled on 65 through midfield veteran David Thomas.

Matty Owen delivered a set-piece from the right and Thomas’ fierce header proved too powerful for keeper Warren Fletcher, who could only help the ball into the net.

Three minutes later Anthony Williams scored what turned out to be the winner for Def Parry’s islanders. A ball from the right found Williams in space and the striker hammered into the roof of the net.

Carwyn Williams was man of the match for the Puffins.

Caergybi 0 Bontnewydd 1

Alex Kalafusz’s 85th minute goal was all that separated the teams at Millbank.

CPD Y Fali 1 Llanystumdwy 2

Bad day at the office for Y Fali who lost the game and had two players sent off very late on.

Thomas Lloyd Jones struck first for the hosts in the 12th minute from a Rhys Thomas assist before Daniel Rhinds made it 1-1 after 25.

Arwyn Parry Jones delivered the decider for long-distance travellers Llanystumdwy on 71, then Y Fali had both Rhys Thomas and Daniel Owen red-carded two minutes over the 90.
