Sixteen straight league wins for Holywell who bounce back from Welsh Cup heartbreak in style

JD CYMRU NORTH – WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8

Mold Alexandra 0
Holywell Town 2 (Z Edwards 47, Murray 81)
Holywell showed exactly what they are made of as they recovered from Sunday’s Welsh Cup disappointment to claim their 16th straight league win four days later.
It was a very tough proposition for the Wellmen at Alyn Park so soon after a heartbreaking 2-1 cup loss at Penybont, yet Johnny Haseldin’s men proved once again that they are an exceptional Cymru North side.
Mold’s Steve Watkins went close with an early header before Morgan Murray forced a good stop at the other end from Elliot Quinlan.
Danny Andrews then drilled just wide before Murray’s deflected shot clipped the post.
Victims of a last-gasp penalty injustice on Sunday, the Wellmen were aggrieved again when Dave Forbes appeared to be pushed over in the box by Watkins, but nothing was given.
Keighan Jones pulled off a great stop just before the break and it remained 0-0 at half time.
Straight after the restart, the visitors took the lead.
Andrews laid the ball off to Zebb Edwards who fired home a fierce shot to break the deadlock. From at least 25 yards out, Zebb lashed in an unstoppable left-foot rocket even the great Roberto Carlos would have been proud of.
Both keepers showed their worth before Holywell bagged a decisive second goal on 81 minutes.
Ilan Ap Gareth’s attempt came back off the crossbar and Murray capitalised to score from the rebound.
Holywell are back up to second, 12 points behind leaders Colwyn Bay with two games in hand.
