Teenager Kaelyn’s hat-trick helps Flint come out on top in seven-goal thriller at the Essity

Hat-trick star Kaelyn Williams (12) on the attack for Flint Town United

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE – FEBRUARY 5

Flint Town United 4 (K Williams 35, 55 & 72; R Hughes 38)
Llanystumdwy 3 (Mpuku 41 pen, 47 & 75)

Kaelyn Williams became the first Flint Town United women’s player to score a league hat-trick in Sunday’s thriller at the Essity Stadium.

The match also saw Llanystumdwy’s Grace Mpuku net three times, but she ended up on the losing side.

The game started with Flint showing how far they have come, especially on the ball. Defence and midfield looked comfortable picking the ball up in deep areas and playing out.

Flint remained strong and in control as Daisy Hughes cut the ball back across the six-yard box for a waiting Kaelyn Williams to tap home, scoring her first team goal in the 35th minute.

In the 38th minute Flint’s Rosie Hughes found space down the left side of Llanystumdwy’s defence and calmly slotted a side-footed effort into the far corner, going in off the post, taking the score to 2-0.

Llanystumdwy’s Mpuku made it 2-1 after scoring an admirable penalty just before the half time whistle.

The second half began with Llanystumdwy looking strong and Mpuku slid through Flint’s defence, scoring her second goal in the 47th minute.

Kaelyn Williams added her second following a wide free kick from Rosie Hughes that found its way through to the winger at the back post. She applied a right-footed finish past Llanystumdwy keeper Sara Lacey.

To complete her hat-trick and register FTU’s fourth, 17-year-old Kaelyn scored the goal of the day.

After a lofted pass from Charlotte Walters an audacious chip from 24 yards out from Kaelyn left the keeper with no chance.

Mpuku responded and continued to showcase her skills, bagging herself a hat-trick in the 75th minute.

Llanystumdwy remained lively and tried to stretch Flint’s defence. Flint held their line with powerful strides from full-backs Taylia Chaloner and Chloe Hughes with some great saves from goalkeeper Becky Bott.

Both teams battled well but despite two serious injuries resulting in Flint going down to 10 players, their determination and commitment could not be beaten.
