Horace Wynne Cup holders Queen’s Park advanced with a narrow win in a cracking tie against Connah’s Quay Town.
Both teams made early inroads at The Tip, but Park steadied themselves quickest. With Liam Davies playing up front, they always looked a threat.
After a quick series of corners, Davies won a penalty after he was pushed from behind. The dependable Mikey Latham blasted into the bottom corner with 25 minutes played.
Soon after Davies rode some fierce challenges and was unlucky to slice his shot wide.
In the 35th minute, the hosts earned another flag kick and after a delightful ball from Dylan Jones, Luke Hughes jumped highest to loop a great header into the top corner.
The second half was a completely different affair as the Park were forced to sit back and defend for their lives.
Whilst territorially it was all Town, Park still broke well and had a number of chances. Davies, Latham and Leroy Ngema went close, the latter bending one against the crossbar.
At the other end it was all rearguard action. Josh Edwards was dominant on all crosses and the Park goal led a charmed life.
Town did eventually get one back in the 83rd minute through Jake Leonard, but the Park held on with 10 men after Liam Davies had received his marching orders for a second yellow card.
Jimmy Jones grabbed a hat-trick for a Ruabon side which edged a seven-goal thriller at Gronant.
Former Cefn Albion star Jones struck on 10, 38 and 73 minutes (pen) for the visitors, with Kyle Evans adding what turned out to be the winner after 81.
Aidan Bell (pen), Steven Kirk and Daniel Price replied for the home team.
Tom Huxley (2), Ethan Simpson, Seb Kidd, Finley Dyer and Jason Edwards shared the goals for winners Lex, Jay Wiles and Samuel Riley replying.
Matthew Holmes (3), Ben Hughes (2) and a goal each from Harry Brown, Marcus Davies, Liam Hughes and Liam Williams ensured Penyffordd progressed comfortably, Shane Burke and Bruno De Sousa supplying consolations for the visitors.
Arran Turner’s 37th minute strike was enough to separate the sides at the final whistle.
David MacIntyre scored twice as Castell Alun claimed a comfortable three points at Brymbo.
Reece Jones, Daniel Woosey, Allister Belk and Jack Jones built up the visitors’ tally, while Tommy Booth and Sam Henry hit back for the Steelmen.
Matthew Davies’ goal in added time booked Villa a win at the reigning champions.
Sam Wainwright edged the Yellers in front on 55 minutes before Connor Hughes levelled soon after.
Lewis Jones (2), Jordan Howell, Tony Jones, Connor Davies and Karl Lloyd came up with Rangers’ goals, James Gibney with a late retort for the hosts.
Alex Williams (pen), Paul Edwards and Oliver Nelson provided the winning goals for Overton, who had Peter Thedens red-carded on 29 minutes.
Joe Jones netted after 63 minutes for United, who were three-down at that stage.
Jack Smallman, Michael Guest and Lewis Harrison found the net for runaway leaders Caerwys in an emphatic win at Matty Jones Circle, home of Johnstown.
Craig Worthington, Matthew Davies and Kacper Wojciech split the goals for victorious Alun.
Ryan Lancelotte and Liam Lawrence both netted twice as leaders Queen’s Park romped to an 8-0 triumph at Lex.
Joshua Venables (pen), Ben White, Sean Price and Ashley Ryan added singles for the away side.
Jordan Rumens gave Llay a 22nd minute lead, but Ryan Jones equalised on 45 and Jack Gilmore delivered the winner after 84.
Ifan Jones (2) and George Mitchell (pen) supplied the home goals, but a Gary McConnell double and Kyle Harte strike sealed a point for Quay.
Adam Woosey put Mynydd one-up on six minutes and Ollie Fennell clinched the victory just beyond the 90.
